Clear Pharmaceutical PVC Film
Colored Pharmaceutical PVC Film
Pharmaceutical rigid PVC film is a calendered or extruded thermoforming web used as the forming material in push-through blister packs. The film is heated, formed into cavities, filled with tablets or capsules and sealed to a compatible aluminum lidding foil.
Plain PVC provides economical packaging, good transparency and reliable thermoforming for stable or relatively low-moisture-sensitive formulations. More sensitive products may require PVC/PVDC, PVC/PE/PVDC, PVC/PCTFE or cold-form aluminum structures selected through stability and barrier testing.
Product clarification: This page is optimized for plain pharmaceutical grade rigid PVC blister film. PVC/PVDC duplex film, PVC/PE/PVDC triplex film, suppository or oral-liquid laminates and medical-device thermoforming sheet are separate structures and should not share one specification table.

1. Reliable thermoforming: Controlled softening and shrinkage support consistent cavity formation on compatible rotary and flat-bed blister lines.
2. Good clarity: Transparent grades allow visual inspection of the dosage form and support attractive retail presentation.
3. Color and UV options: Amber, opaque and UV-absorbing grades can be developed for light-sensitive products after stability evaluation.
4. Dimensional consistency: Stable thickness, width and lay-flat performance support machine registration and sealing.
5. Compatible sealing surface: Plain rigid PVC can seal to approved aluminum lidding foil using a PVC-compatible heat-seal lacquer.
6. Customized rolls: Slit width, core, roll diameter, color, surface slip and packing can be matched to the blister line.
7. Batch documentation: Inspection records, labels and applicable regulatory documents can be supplied according to the agreed quality specification.
Blister-forming performance depends on the PVC grade, gauge, cavity shape, heater design, forming pressure, line speed and cooling. Machine trials should be completed before commercial approval.
Forming temperature: Establish a validated processing window for the exact PVC grade and machine.
Cavity geometry: Deep or complex cavities may require a copolymer grade, higher gauge or different barrier structure.
Web handling: Confirm winding tension, static control, edge alignment, flatness and surface slip.
Sealing: Match PVC surface, aluminum heat-seal lacquer, sealing temperature, pressure and dwell time.
Printing: For printed blister film, verify ink adhesion, rub resistance, curing, registration and migration requirements.
Change control: Resin, additive, color, gauge or process changes should be managed under the agreed pharmaceutical quality system.
Tablet blister packaging: Standard round, oval or shaped tablet cavities using plain or colored rigid PVC.
Capsule blister packaging: Thermoformed cavities designed around capsule dimensions and line speed.
Light-protective packs: Amber, opaque or UV-absorbing PVC selected through product stability testing.
Medical-device trays and clamshells: Require a separately approved medical packaging grade and validation of sterilization, seal integrity and sterile barrier performance.
Liquid or suppository packaging: Usually requires PVC/PE or another laminated structure rather than plain rigid PVC blister film.

Plain pharmaceutical blister PVC should not automatically be described as suitable for sterilization at 190°C. Medical-device packaging materials may be evaluated for ethylene oxide, gamma, electron-beam or plasma sterilization, but compatibility depends on the exact PVC, APET or PETG grade, dose, cycle and package design.
Sterile packaging responsibility: Sterility is achieved and maintained by the complete validated system, including tray, lidding material, seal, sterilization cycle, distribution testing and shelf-life study. A general PVC data sheet alone does not establish sterile-barrier compliance.
Pharmaceutical buyers should qualify the exact film grade rather than relying only on general SGS, RoHS or ISO certificates. Required documentation depends on the dosage form, market, contact type and customer quality system.
Product specification: Thickness, width, color, surface, shrinkage, impact, roll configuration and defect limits.
Regulatory tests: Residual vinyl chloride monomer, extractables, migration, identification and toxicity tests where applicable.
Pharmacopoeial requirements: Applicable USP, European Pharmacopoeia, Chinese Pharmacopoeia or destination-market standards.
Quality-system documents: Manufacturing-site certification, change control, traceability, deviation handling and batch release records.
Drug-package validation: Stability, compatibility, seal integrity and shelf life remain the responsibility of the pharmaceutical product owner.
• Thickness, grammage, slit width and width tolerance
• Transparency, haze, gloss, color and UV transmission where specified
• Shrinkage, softening behavior and thermoforming consistency
• Impact strength, tensile properties and roll handling
• Gels, black spots, fish eyes, scratches, lines, bubbles and contamination
• Lay-flat, curl, blocking, surface slip and static behavior
• Core condition, joints, winding, labels, batch traceability and protective packing

Kraft Packing for PVC Film
Pallet Packing for PVC Film
Roll protection: Each roll can be wrapped in black PE film or another agreed barrier wrap to protect it from dust, light and moisture.
Core protection: Use clean, burr-free paper or plastic cores with protected ends and product labels.
Carton and pallet: Rolls can be packed in cartons and secured on export plywood pallets.
Storage: Keep the film in its original packaging in a clean, dry, ventilated area away from sunlight, heat and contamination.
Conditioning: Allow rolls to reach the production-room temperature before opening and processing to reduce condensation.
Shelf life: Confirm the approved storage period and retest requirements on the product specification and certificate of analysis.
HSQY can provide applicable company, quality-system and third-party documents according to the selected product. Pharmaceutical qualification must be based on documents covering the exact grade and manufacturing site, not on a general certificate image alone.

It is a rigid thermoforming film used as the cavity-forming web in pharmaceutical blister packs. It is heated, formed, filled with tablets or capsules and sealed to compatible lidding foil.
No. Plain PVC is generally used for stable or relatively low-moisture-sensitive formulations. Sensitive products may require PVDC, PCTFE or cold-form aluminum after stability testing.
Plain PVC provides the thermoformable base and basic barrier. PVC/PVDC adds a PVDC coating that increases resistance to water vapor and oxygen.
PVC/PVDC is a duplex coated structure. PVC/PE/PVDC is a triplex laminate with a flexible PE intermediate layer that can improve impact resistance and forming performance.
This product listing covers 0.12mm–0.30mm. Common pharmaceutical blister gauges include 0.20mm, 0.25mm and 0.30mm, subject to machine and cavity requirements.
Yes. Clear, amber, blue, green, red, yellow, white opaque and other colors can be developed. Color and UV protection must be approved against the drug's light-sensitivity requirements.
Compatible grades can run on rotary and flat-bed blister lines. Forming temperature, line speed, tension, cavity geometry and sealing conditions require validation.
Use pharmaceutical push-through aluminum foil coated with a heat-seal lacquer compatible with PVC. Confirm seal strength, temperature, pressure and dwell time.
Standard PVC should not automatically be described as antistatic. Specify the required surface-resistance range and duration if static control is needed.
No general 190°C sterilization claim should be made. Sterilization compatibility depends on the exact packaging grade and validated method, such as ethylene oxide, gamma, electron beam or plasma.
No. Conventional PVC is not rapidly biodegradable and is not suitable for home composting. Environmental claims must reflect actual material recovery and local waste infrastructure.
Medical-device trays and clamshells require a separately approved medical packaging grade and validation for sterilization, sterile barrier, seal integrity, distribution and shelf life.
Request the current product specification, certificate of analysis, applicable pharmacopoeial or regulatory tests, manufacturing-site documents, change-control information and batch traceability.
Available samples can be supplied for forming, sealing, printing and stability evaluation. Provide the gauge, slit width, core, color, machine and required sample length.
