What Is BOPET/PETG Sealing Film?

BOPET/PETG sealing film, also known as BOPET/PETG lidding film or polyester lock-seal film, is a laminated tray-lidding material that combines a biaxially oriented PET outer layer with a PETG heat-seal layer.

The BOPET layer provides tensile strength, transparency, gloss, dimensional stability and a printable surface. The PETG layer acts as the tray-contact sealant and develops a strong bond when controlled heat, pressure and dwell time are applied.

HSQY's current standard BOPET/PETG lidding film is designed primarily as a lock-seal film for compatible PET and PETG packaging surfaces. It is intended for applications that prioritize package integrity, leakage resistance and distribution security rather than easy manual peeling.

Compatibility must be verified with the actual tray, food product and sealing machine. The film should not be assumed to seal every APET, rPET, CPET, PP, PE or PS tray without testing.

What Is a Lock-Seal Lidding Film?

Lock-seal film forms a strong or substantially non-peelable bond between the lidding film and tray flange.

It is selected when the package requires greater resistance to accidental opening, leakage, vibration, stacking and transportation.

Lock-seal packaging may require the user to cut, puncture or tear the film to access the product. It should not be marketed as easy peel unless a separate easy-peel sealant formulation has been developed and tested.

Compatible Tray Materials

The PETG sealant layer is intended primarily for compatible polyester-based packaging surfaces. Actual performance depends on the tray resin, recycled content, surface treatment, flange condition and sealing parameters.

Is BOPET/PETG Film a High-Barrier Film?

Standard BOPET/PETG lock-seal film should not automatically be classified as a high-barrier MAP film.

BOPET provides useful aroma and gas resistance for general packaging, but oxygen-sensitive food or modified atmosphere packaging may require a dedicated barrier layer.

High-barrier options may use:

No. The current standard HSQY BOPET/PETG lock-seal film is not specified as microwaveable.

Microwave applications require a separate film structure validated with the actual tray, food, microwave power, heating time and steam-release instructions.

Can the Standard Film Be Used in a Conventional Oven?

No. The current standard product is not ovenable.

Conventional-oven applications require a dedicated ovenable polyester film and a compatible tray such as a validated CPET packaging system.

Can the Standard Film Be Used for Frozen Food?

The current standard product is not specified as freezer-safe.

Frozen-food packaging requires a separately validated film with suitable low-temperature flexibility, seal integrity, impact resistance and laminate-bond performance.
