HSQY manufactures BOPP/CPP lamination films for snacks, confectionery, bakery products, instant noodles, dried foods, seasoning sachets, frozen foods, dry pet food and customized flexible packaging.

BOPP/CPP is a polypropylene-based laminated packaging structure combining an outer biaxially oriented polypropylene film with an inner cast polypropylene heat-sealing film.

The BOPP outer layer provides high clarity, gloss, tensile strength, stiffness, dimensional stability and a suitable surface for high-quality printing.

The CPP inner layer provides heat sealing, hot tack, flexibility, grease resistance, moisture protection and compatibility with high-speed packaging equipment.

Standard BOPP/CPP film is generally clear and glossy. Custom options include reverse printing, matte appearance, white or colored structures, anti-fog treatment, low-temperature sealing, deep-freeze performance and project-specific high-barrier designs.

Standard transparent BOPP/CPP provides good moisture resistance and useful protection against oxygen, aromas, oils and external contamination. Products requiring very low oxygen or water-vapor transmission may require an additional barrier coating, EVOH layer, metallized film or aluminum foil.

HSQY publishes customizable total thicknesses from approximately 0.045mm to 0.35mm and film widths from approximately 160mm to 2600mm. Actual availability depends on the selected BOPP and CPP gauges, printing width, lamination process, slitting equipment, roll diameter and packaging-machine requirements.

Standard, anti-fog, frozen-food and retort-grade structures should be evaluated as separate products. Heat resistance, seal strength, barrier performance and food-contact suitability must be confirmed for the final approved film and intended conditions of use.

What Is BOPP/CPP Lamination Film?

BOPP/CPP lamination film is produced by bonding biaxially oriented polypropylene film to cast polypropylene film using a suitable laminating adhesive or another approved lamination process.

Both primary layers are based on polypropylene, but their manufacturing processes create different mechanical and sealing properties.

BOPP is stretched in both the machine and transverse directions. This orientation improves tensile strength, stiffness, clarity, gloss and dimensional stability.

CPP is manufactured using a cast-film process and remains more flexible. It is commonly selected as the product-contact and heat-sealing layer of the laminate.

Combining the two materials creates a clear, printable and heat-sealable film suitable for roll-stock packaging, sachets, pillow bags, center-seal bags and other flexible packaging formats.

Structure of BOPP/CPP Lamination Film

BOPP Outer Layer

The outer BOPP layer provides clarity, gloss, tensile strength, stiffness and dimensional stability.

Corona-treated BOPP can provide a suitable surface for gravure, flexographic or other compatible printing methods.

Reverse printing places the ink between the BOPP and CPP layers, helping protect the printed graphics from external abrasion and direct product contact.

CPP Inner Heat-Sealing Layer

The CPP layer provides the primary heat-sealing surface and contributes flexibility, hot tack, moisture resistance, grease resistance and puncture performance.

CPP formulations can be adjusted for standard sealing, low-temperature sealing, wider seal windows, deep-freeze storage, anti-fog performance or retort processing.

Laminating Adhesive

The laminating adhesive bonds the BOPP and CPP films and affects bond strength, residual odor, chemical resistance, curing time, temperature performance and package shelf life.

The adhesive system must be selected according to the packaged product, printing ink, filling conditions, storage temperature and any hot-fill, pasteurization or retort requirement.

Key Features of BOPP/CPP Lamination Film

  • High transparency and gloss: Creates strong shelf presentation and allows clear product visibility.

  • Good mechanical strength: BOPP supports high-speed converting and helps maintain package shape.

  • Reliable heat sealing: CPP provides seal integrity, hot tack and flexible seal-layer design.

  • Moisture resistance: The polypropylene layers help reduce moisture transmission for many dry-food applications.

  • Grease resistance: Suitable CPP grades can be used with oily snacks, bakery products and confectionery.

  • Printable surface: Treated BOPP supports detailed reverse printing and brand graphics.

  • Packaging-line performance: Slip, coefficient of friction, seal window and roll tension can be adjusted for equipment requirements.

  • Functional customization: Anti-fog, frozen, low-SIT, matte, white and metallized options are available.

  • PP-based design: BOPP and CPP belong to the same polypropylene polymer family, supporting mono-material-oriented packaging development.

Barrier Performance and Shelf-Life Design

Standard BOPP/CPP provides good moisture resistance and useful oxygen, aroma and grease protection for many snacks, bakery products, noodles and dry foods.

The structure should not be described as having one universal oxygen or water-vapor barrier because performance changes with film gauge, coatings, adhesive, printing, package seals and storage conditions.

Exact OTR and WVTR values should identify the complete structure, test method, temperature and relative humidity.

Packaging Requirement Structure Consideration
Standard dry-food moisture protection Standard clear BOPP/CPP may be suitable after shelf-life testing
Improved oxygen and aroma barrier Consider coated BOPP, EVOH, PVDC, AlOx or SiOx technology
Metallic appearance and stronger barrier Consider BOPP/VMBOPP/CPP, BOPP/VMCPP or another metallized structure
Maximum light protection Consider an opaque or aluminum-foil-containing laminate
Transparent high-barrier packaging Consider transparent barrier-coated or EVOH-based PP structures

Heat-Seal Strength and Packaging-Line Performance

CPP is the primary heat-sealing layer of the laminate. Seal quality depends on the CPP formulation and the customer's sealing equipment.

Excessively low sealing temperatures may produce weak or incomplete seals. Excessively high temperatures can cause film distortion, shrinkage, seal burn-through or product damage.

Machine Parameter Why It Matters Required Confirmation
Seal-Initiation Temperature Defines the lowest temperature at which an effective seal begins to form CPP grade, pressure, dwell time and test method
Operating Seal Window A broad window improves production tolerance and speed Minimum and maximum validated temperatures
Hot Tack The package may carry product weight before the seal fully cools Line speed, product weight and jaw-release timing
Seal Strength Controls package integrity during handling and transport Target strength, test width, peel speed and conditioning
Coefficient of Friction Influences film feeding, forming, tracking and bag discharge Inner and outer COF ranges under agreed conditions
Seal Contamination Crumbs, oil, powder or moisture can weaken the seal Expected contamination and package leak criteria

Applications of BOPP/CPP Lamination Film

  • Snack packaging: Chips, crackers, nuts, seeds, dried fruit and extruded snacks.

  • Confectionery packaging: Candy, chocolate, cookies and sweet products.

  • Bakery packaging: Bread, cakes, pastries, biscuits and bakery ingredients.

  • Instant-food packaging: Noodles, pasta, soup mixes and seasoning sachets.

  • Dry-food packaging: Rice, beans, grains, cereal, powder and dried ingredients.

  • Frozen-food packaging: Frozen vegetables, dumplings, bakery products and prepared food using a deep-freeze grade.

  • Fresh-food packaging: Anti-fog structures for produce, salads and chilled products.

  • Dry pet-food packaging: Pet treats, supplements and small dry-food formats.

  • Consumer-goods packaging: Stationery, textiles, personal-care items and household products.

  • Pharmaceutical secondary packaging: Non-sterile outer packaging subject to project-specific compliance.

BOPP/CPP Film for Frozen Food Packaging

Frozen-food packaging should use a CPP grade developed to maintain flexibility, impact resistance and seal strength at the required storage and transport temperature.

Standard room-temperature film may become brittle or lose seal integrity during freezing, impact or repeated temperature cycling.

  • Confirm the minimum storage and transport temperature.

  • Test cold-impact and puncture resistance.

  • Measure seal strength after freezing.

  • Conduct drop, vibration and transport tests.

  • Check flexibility after temperature cycling.

  • Evaluate resistance to sharp frozen-food edges.

Anti-Fog BOPP/CPP Film

Anti-fog CPP helps condensed moisture spread into a thin layer rather than forming visible droplets that obscure the packaged product.

Anti-fog performance depends on the treatment system, product temperature, humidity, storage conditions and whether hot or cold anti-fog behavior is required.

The anti-fog surface must also maintain suitable heat sealing, slip, food-contact and machine-running performance.

Is BOPP/CPP Suitable for Retort Packaging?

Standard BOPP/CPP should not automatically be used for retort sterilization, pressure cooking or high-temperature boiling.

Retort projects require retort-grade CPP or RCPP, a heat-resistant outer layer, retort-grade adhesive, compatible printing ink and validated pouch-making conditions.

Depending on the barrier and puncture requirements, alternative structures may include PET/RCPP, PET/NY/RCPP, PET/AL/RCPP or other project-specific laminates.

The package must be tested using the actual food, acidity, oil content, sterilization temperature, sterilization time, pressure, cooling process and shelf-life target.

Flexible Packaging Formats

  • Vertical form-fill-seal roll stock.

  • Horizontal form-fill-seal roll stock.

  • Flow-wrap packaging.

  • Pillow bags.

  • Center-seal and fin-seal bags.

  • Three-side-seal pouches.

  • Four-side-seal pouches.

  • Stick packs and seasoning sachets.

  • Flat pouches.

  • Gusseted bags.

  • Selected stand-up pouches using an appropriate high-stiffness BOPP outer layer.

Custom Printing and Artwork Requirements

Custom reverse printing can be applied to the BOPP layer for logos, product information, barcodes, preparation instructions and decorative graphics.

The BOPP surface must have a suitable and stable treatment level for the selected ink and laminating adhesive.

Printing Requirement Information to Confirm
Artwork File Editable AI, PDF or another agreed vector format
Color Standard Pantone reference, approved proof or physical color sample
Printing Side Surface or reverse printing according to film structure
Repeat Length Matched to bag length and packaging-machine registration
Eye Mark Color, dimensions, position and sensor compatibility
Winding Direction Inside or outside winding and machine-feed orientation
Seal Areas Identify controlled-ink or unprinted seal zones where required
Barcode and Coding Areas Provide suitable contrast, quiet zones and coding-surface requirements

Food-Contact Compliance Requirements

Food-contact suitability depends on the final approved BOPP/CPP structure rather than only the material names BOPP and CPP.

The assessment should include the BOPP film, CPP film, laminating adhesive, printing ink, primer, pigment, coating, additives and manufacturing conditions.

Buyers should specify the food type, direct or indirect contact, contact duration, filling temperature, storage temperature, heating process and destination market.

Applicable documents may include a declaration of compliance, formulation statement, migration test report, residual-solvent report and supporting regulatory information.

SGS should be described according to the exact test performed. FDA should not be presented as a universal product certification, and ISO 9001 does not independently establish food-contact compliance.

Pharmaceutical and Medical Packaging Limitations

Standard food-packaging BOPP/CPP should not automatically be marketed for sterile surgical instruments, IV bags, pharmaceutical blister packs or primary drug-contact packaging.

These applications may require dedicated medical polymers, sterilization compatibility, microbial-barrier performance, extractables testing, seal validation, package-aging studies and market-specific regulatory approval.

BOPP/CPP may be considered for selected non-sterile medical products, pharmaceutical secondary packaging and specialty sachets after the complete structure and compliance requirements are confirmed.

PP Mono-Material and Recyclability Considerations

BOPP and CPP are both polypropylene materials, making the structure suitable for PP mono-material-oriented packaging development.

This does not mean that every BOPP/CPP laminate is automatically recyclable.

The complete package can also contain adhesives, inks, coatings, metallization, zippers, valves, labels and other components that affect compatibility with a PP recycling stream.

A recyclable PP pouch design may require a high-stiffness BOPP outer web, CPP sealant film, PP-compatible adhesive and accessories selected according to an applicable design-for-recycling guideline.

Final recyclability claims should be supported by the complete package design, local collection and sorting systems, and an appropriate market-specific assessment.
