White HIPS Printing Sheet
HIPS Sheet for POP and Signage
HIPS stands for High Impact Polystyrene. It is a modified polystyrene material developed to provide greater toughness and impact resistance than standard general-purpose polystyrene while retaining low weight, stiffness and good processing characteristics.
For printing applications, HIPS is valued for its relatively smooth and consistent surface, which makes it useful for printed signs, retail displays, promotional panels, shelf graphics, display components and branded packaging.
The exact printing performance depends on sheet surface finish, surface energy, ink chemistry, printing equipment and pre-treatment. Buyers should test the actual sheet with their selected ink and printing process before mass production.

HIPS is widely used as a screen-printing substrate for indoor signs, POP displays, promotional graphics and display panels. Surface finish and surface treatment should be matched to the selected ink system.
HIPS can be evaluated for direct UV digital printing where a rigid sheet is required for short- to medium-run promotional displays, signs and retail graphics. Ink adhesion should be checked using the actual printer, ink and sheet surface.
For double-sided printing, buyers should confirm whether both surfaces have the same finish, treatment and ink adhesion. A gloss face and matte reverse face may require different printing settings.
Printable HIPS can also be used with laminated graphics, pressure-sensitive labels and decorative films. Adhesive compatibility should be evaluated according to the sheet surface and final service conditions.
A consistent sheet surface supports clean graphics, logos, text and branding for indoor advertising and retail display applications.
High Impact Polystyrene is modified to provide better toughness and crack resistance than standard general-purpose polystyrene, making it useful for display and fabricated parts that are handled during installation and use.
HIPS provides useful panel stiffness without excessive weight, which can simplify handling, fabrication and transportation for large-volume display projects.
HIPS sheet can be selected for die cutting, sawing, CNC cutting, scoring, drilling and other fabrication processes depending on gauge, geometry and production equipment.
Suitable HIPS grades can be thermoformed or vacuum formed after sheet extrusion, allowing printed or unprinted material to be converted into displays, trays, inserts and three-dimensional components.
HIPS is commonly considered where buyers need a rigid printable plastic substrate for volume POP, signage and promotional campaigns without moving to more expensive engineering plastics.
Printable HIPS sheet is suitable for promotional display panels, counter displays, shelf displays and other POP components used in retail stores.
HIPS can be printed and fabricated into POS graphics, price boards, product display panels and short-term promotional materials.
The rigid and printable surface makes HIPS suitable for indoor directional signs, retail signage, promotional boards, menu graphics and exhibition panels.
Thin HIPS sheet can be converted into shelf talkers, header cards, promotional strips and other lightweight retail graphics.
Printed HIPS panels can be used for temporary exhibition graphics, display structures, branded panels and promotional installations.
HIPS can also be used for printed packaging components, protective inserts, thermoformed trays and branded formed parts when the selected grade meets the mechanical and application requirements.
Thin HIPS sheet is easy to cut, shape and fabricate, making it useful for models, prototypes, templates and design mock-ups.
Standard HIPS sheet is primarily selected for indoor printing, POP displays and signage. Outdoor exposure can involve UV radiation, temperature cycling, moisture and weathering that may affect color, surface condition and mechanical properties.
If the finished product will be installed outdoors, provide the required outdoor service period and environmental conditions so an appropriate UV-stabilized grade or alternative sheet material can be evaluated.
| Property | HIPS Sheet | GPPS Sheet |
|---|---|---|
| Impact Resistance | Higher impact resistance and toughness | More rigid but generally more brittle |
| Appearance | Typically opaque | Can provide high clarity and transparency |
| Printing | Common choice for printed signs and displays | Can also be printed but selected more often where transparency or rigidity is important |
| Thermoforming | Suitable grades provide good thermoforming performance | Formable but more sensitive to brittle cracking depending on application |
| Typical Use | POP, POS, signage, displays, printed panels and formed components | Clear displays, covers, glazing-style applications and transparent packaging |
Tell HSQY whether the sheet will be screen printed, UV digitally printed, laminated, labeled or processed by another method.
Matte and gloss surfaces create different visual results and may behave differently during ink application. Specify whether one or both sides require a particular finish.
Where printing requires a minimum surface-energy level or corona treatment, include that requirement in the purchase specification rather than assuming all sheets have identical treatment.
Thin sheet is useful for lightweight graphics and formed parts, while thicker sheet provides greater panel rigidity for larger signs, backing panels and fabricated display components.
HSQY currently lists widths up to 1600mm. Provide the finished sheet dimensions, cutting layout and quantity to reduce material waste during printing and converting.
White and black are current standard options. Custom color requirements should include a physical reference, color code or approved sample where precise color matching is required.
Specify whether the printed sheet will later be die-cut, folded, drilled, CNC cut, laminated, glued, vacuum formed or thermoformed so a suitable sheet specification can be evaluated.
Ink Adhesion: Test the actual ink system on the production sheet.
Surface Energy: Confirm the required treatment level for the chosen printing process.
Surface Finish: Specify matte, gloss or project-specific finish.
