A colored polypropylene sheet is an extruded or calendered solid plastic sheet made from polypropylene resin blended with pigments and, where required, functional additives. The pigment gives the sheet a consistent visual identity, while the polypropylene base provides a low-density, moisture-resistant and chemically resistant substrate.
Colored PP sheet is different from corrugated polypropylene board. This product is a solid sheet without a fluted hollow core, making it more suitable for folding cartons, stationery covers, printing substrates, thermoformed parts, liners, machine covers and other converted products that require a continuous surface.
Custom color identification: Different colors can be used for product branding, component identification, warehouse organization, safety coding and visual separation.
Low weight: Polypropylene has a density below many common engineering plastics, helping reduce the weight of folders, packaging, dividers, panels and converted parts.
Low moisture absorption: PP does not readily absorb water, supporting use in humid environments and products that require easy cleaning.
Chemical resistance: Polypropylene resists many diluted acids, alkalis and aqueous solutions. Compatibility must still be checked against the exact chemical, concentration, temperature and exposure time.
Practical fabrication: Thin sheets can be die-cut, scored and folded, while suitable thicker grades can be machined, welded or thermoformed.
Surface flexibility: Smooth, matte, twill, sand and frosted textures can be selected according to appearance, grip, print presentation and scratch-visibility requirements.
Functional formulations: UV stabilization, antistatic performance, flame retardancy and other properties can be developed only after the required test method and target value are specified.
| Thickness | General Characteristics | Typical Uses |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5mm | Thin, lightweight and flexible; suitable for folding and die-cut conversion | Stationery covers, folder inserts, packaging liners, labels, dividers and lightweight printing substrates |
| 1mm | More shape retention while remaining easy to cut, score and form | Reusable boxes, display components, document covers, protective liners and formed packaging parts |
| 2mm | Semi-rigid sheet with improved stiffness and impact resistance | Equipment covers, partitions, reusable containers, trays, signage substrates and fabricated panels |
| 3mm | Stronger rigidity for larger converted components and structural support within framed assemblies | Machine guards, industrial dividers, protective panels, fabricated enclosures and reusable handling components |
Final thickness selection should consider panel dimensions, support spacing, load, bending radius, impact conditions, forming depth and processing equipment. A production sample should be tested before confirming large-volume orders.
Standard colors may include natural, white, black, grey, blue, red, yellow and green. Project-specific color matching can be discussed using a physical sample, Pantone reference, RAL reference or approved masterbatch specification. Exact color tolerance, opacity and batch consistency should be agreed before production.
Smooth or glossy: Suitable for clean decorative surfaces and applications where a brighter color appearance is preferred.
Matte: Reduces strong surface reflections and can make handling marks less visible.
Twill or patterned: Adds visual texture and can improve grip for folders, liners and converted products.
Sand texture: Provides a fine-grained appearance for industrial covers, boxes and decorative components.
Frosted: Produces a diffused, low-glare surface and can be used where partial translucency or a softer appearance is required.
Polypropylene has relatively low surface energy, so ink, adhesive and coating adhesion should not be assumed on untreated material. Corona treatment, flame treatment, primer or a printable surface formulation may be required for screen printing, offset printing, UV printing, labeling or lamination.
Knife cutting, guillotine cutting and die-cutting for thin sheet conversion.
Scoring, creasing and folding for folders, boxes, dividers and packaging components.
Punching, drilling, routing and CNC machining for thicker sheets.
Heat bending and thermoforming when the selected grade and sheet orientation are suitable.
Hot-air or extrusion welding for compatible thicker PP sheet constructions.
Printing and adhesive bonding only after surface-treatment and adhesion trials.
Stationery and office products: Ring binder covers, document folders, index dividers, notebook covers, file boxes and reusable organizers.
Packaging conversion: Folding boxes, reusable packaging, product separators, liners, sleeves and protective inserts.
Printing and displays: Point-of-sale displays, signs, promotional panels, printed folders and exhibition components after suitable surface treatment.
Industrial fabrication: Machine covers, splash guards, partitions, liners, component trays, chemical-area labels and color-coded parts.
Automotive and transport: Interior protection, lightweight covers, separator panels and non-structural fabricated components subject to application testing.
Consumer products: Household organizers, craft components, storage products, reusable boxes and decorative plastic parts.
Food and healthcare projects: Only grades supported by the required food-contact, cleanliness, biocompatibility or regulatory documents should be selected for these applications.
Standard colored polypropylene sheet should not automatically be treated as a permanent outdoor material. Prolonged ultraviolet exposure can cause color change, surface chalking and reduced mechanical performance. Outdoor projects should specify a UV-stabilized formulation, target color, expected service life and test method.
Dark colors and black formulations may provide different weathering performance from light colors, but the actual result depends on pigment, stabilizer package, sheet thickness and exposure conditions. Samples or accelerated-weathering data should be reviewed for critical applications.
PP homopolymer generally offers higher rigidity and dimensional stability at normal operating temperatures, while PP copolymer can provide improved impact performance, especially where lower-temperature toughness is important. The correct grade depends on the finished part, impact requirement, forming method and service environment.
Buyers should not select a sheet only by color and thickness. The quotation should identify whether homopolymer, copolymer, recycled-content or functional-modified PP is required, together with any target mechanical, thermal, electrical or regulatory property.

Colored polypropylene sheets can be protected with film, kraft paper, cartons, corner protection and export pallets according to thickness, dimensions and shipment method. Packing details should be confirmed before order placement to protect the surface texture and sheet flatness during transport.

HSQY Plastic Group meets international customers and industry partners through plastic, packaging and manufacturing exhibitions in different markets.

Available certificates and reports must be matched to the exact PP grade, color, additive package, thickness and production batch. Buyers should identify the required regulation or test standard before ordering rather than relying on a general company certificate.

It is used for stationery covers, reusable packaging, printing substrates, displays, dividers, liners, protective covers, machine components and thermoformed products. The correct thickness and PP grade depend on the finished application.
The featured thicknesses are 0.5mm, 1mm, 2mm and 3mm. A broader range of approximately 0.25mm to 5mm may be available depending on the color, surface, grade, sheet width and order quantity.
Custom color matching can be discussed using a physical sample or an agreed color reference. Color tolerance, opacity, surface texture and approval procedure should be confirmed before bulk production.
Yes, but polypropylene has low surface energy. Corona treatment, flame treatment, primer or a printable-grade surface may be required. Ink adhesion and curing should be tested before mass production.
Thin PP sheet can be scored and folded, and polypropylene is often selected for living-hinge applications. Fold direction, score depth, radius, temperature and grade must be tested for the final design.
Suitable PP grades can be thermoformed into trays, covers and shaped components. Forming temperature, heating uniformity, shrinkage, sheet orientation and mold design should be validated using production samples.
Polypropylene resists many acids, alkalis and aqueous chemicals, but it is not universally resistant to every solvent or chemical. Compatibility depends on concentration, temperature, exposure time and mechanical stress.
Solid PP sheet has very low moisture absorption and is not damaged by ordinary water exposure. Seams, holes, welded joints and the complete finished assembly determine whether a fabricated product is watertight.
Standard PP is not automatically suitable for long-term outdoor use. A UV-stabilized formulation should be specified, and the expected color retention and service life should be confirmed for the actual exposure conditions.
Food-contact suitability depends on the resin, pigment, additives and manufacturing controls used for the exact product. Request the applicable declaration and migration or compliance documents for the target market before use.
PP homopolymer generally provides greater rigidity, while PP copolymer can provide better impact resistance and low-temperature toughness. The final choice should be based on mechanical and service requirements.
Stock or project samples may be available for checking color, thickness, texture, print adhesion, folding, forming and fabrication. Custom color samples may require a color-matching or trial-production process.
Provide thickness, width, length, quantity, color reference, surface finish, application, processing method, functional requirements, packing method, destination port and required certificates or test standards.
