PET/PE Composite Film
PET/PE thermoforming film for food packaging is a semi-rigid multilayer material that combines a clear PET or APET structural layer with a PE-based sealing layer. The PET layer provides clarity, stiffness, impact resistance and thermoforming performance, while the PE layer supports heat sealing to a compatible top web or lidding film.
HSQY supplies transparent and customized PET/PE composite film in roll form for meat trays, seafood packs, cheese packaging, deli products, prepared foods and form-fill-seal applications. The current product range is available in total thicknesses from 0.18 mm to 1.5 mm, widths up to 1500 mm, and peelable or weld-seal grades.
The exact PET/PE construction should be selected according to the food type, tray depth, forming ratio, top-film structure, sealing temperature, pressure, dwell time, storage conditions and destination-market food-contact requirements.
Clear PET/PE composite thermoforming roll
Transparent PET/PE sheet surface
PET/PE composite thermoforming film is also described as APET/PE laminated sheet, PET/PE forming film, PET/PE bottom web or PET/PE thermoforming rollstock. It is thicker and more rigid than conventional flexible packaging film and is designed to be heated and formed into trays, cavities or packaging bases.
During production, the material is heated until the PET structure becomes formable. Vacuum, pressure or mechanical assistance then draws the web into a mold. After filling, the formed package is sealed with a compatible top film.
The PET layer supplies most of the rigidity and transparent presentation. The PE layer provides the sealing interface and can be engineered for either a permanent weld seal or a controlled peelable opening.

Thermoformed food tray application
Clear food packaging application
| Seal Type | Performance | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|
| Peelable Grade | Designed to open with a controlled peel force without requiring the consumer to cut the package. | Cheese, sliced meats, deli foods and consumer-convenience packs. |
| Weld-Seal Grade | Creates a stronger permanent seal intended to resist handling, transport and product pressure. | Liquid-containing products, heavy food packs and applications requiring a strong non-peel seal. |
Peel or weld performance is not determined by the bottom web alone. The top film, sealant chemistry, tray flange, sealing temperature, pressure, dwell time, contamination level and product temperature must be tested together.
A standard PET/PE structure provides good clarity, stiffness, sealability and moisture resistance. It should not automatically be described as a high oxygen-barrier material.
Packaging for fresh meat, cheese, seafood or other oxygen-sensitive products may require an EVOH barrier layer, a specific MAP structure or another validated barrier construction. The required OTR and WVTR should be established from the product, target shelf life, gas mixture, storage temperature and distribution conditions.
Clear PET/PE also does not provide a complete light barrier. Opaque color, printing, metallization or another dedicated light-barrier layer is required when protection from visible or ultraviolet light is essential.
Forming Depth: Confirm the cavity dimensions, draw ratio, corner radius and minimum remaining wall thickness.
Heating Profile: Heating temperature and time must be matched to the total sheet thickness, machine speed and mold design.
Roll Geometry: Provide roll width, core ID, maximum roll diameter, maximum roll weight and unwind direction.
Top-Web Compatibility: Identify the lidding-film structure and whether the package requires peelable, lock-seal, anti-fog or high-barrier performance.
Seal Window: Validate the acceptable combination of temperature, pressure and dwell time that produces consistent seals without flange distortion or film damage.
Cutting and Indexing: Check edge quality, roll tracking, thickness profile, coefficient of friction and machine-registration requirements.
Custom Thickness: Total thickness can be adjusted within the available 0.18–1.5 mm range.
Custom Width: Roll widths can be slit according to the forming machine and mold layout, up to the current maximum width.
Core and Roll Size: Available core ID, roll diameter, roll length and net roll weight can be matched to the packaging line.
Color: Clear, black, white and customized colors may be supplied according to minimum production requirements.
Seal Performance: Peelable and weld-seal structures are available for compatible top films.
Functional Options: Anti-fog, recycled PET content, printing and higher-barrier structures can be evaluated separately.
Thickness Profile: Total thickness and cross-web variation should remain within the agreed tolerance.
Layer Adhesion: PET and PE layers should remain bonded after forming, sealing and cold-chain handling.
Visual Quality: Inspection can include haze, color, black spots, gels, scratches, contamination and surface defects.
Roll Quality: Edge alignment, winding tension, telescoping, wrinkles, core condition and roll identification should be checked before shipment.
Forming Trial: Sample rolls should be tested for draw uniformity, wall-thickness distribution, flange flatness and cutting performance.
Package Validation: Finished packs should be tested for seal integrity, leakage, peel force, storage performance, transport resistance and food-contact suitability.

PET/PE thermoforming film is a semi-rigid multilayer packaging material with a PET or APET structural layer and a PE sealing layer. It is formed into food trays or bottom packs and sealed with a compatible top film.
Not necessarily. This product is supplied in a semi-rigid thickness range of 0.18–1.5 mm for thermoforming. Conventional flexible PET/PE pouch or lidding film is normally much thinner and is designed for a different converting process.
The PE layer provides the sealing surface, moisture resistance and toughness. Its formulation determines whether the package uses a peelable seal or a stronger permanent weld seal.
Typical applications include fresh meat, poultry, seafood, cheese, sliced meats, deli foods and prepared foods. The exact structure must be matched to the food, storage temperature and shelf-life target.
Standard PET/PE provides useful moisture resistance and general packaging protection but should not automatically be treated as high oxygen barrier. EVOH or another barrier layer is normally required when a specified low OTR is needed.
It can be used in MAP projects when the complete bottom web, top film, barrier level, seal integrity and gas mixture have been validated. Standard PET/PE without a dedicated barrier layer may not meet longer shelf-life requirements.
Peelable grades are designed for controlled consumer opening. Weld-seal grades create a stronger permanent seal. Both require testing with the actual top film, tray flange and sealing machine.
Yes. The current range covers total thicknesses from 0.18 mm to 1.5 mm and widths up to 1500 mm. Final availability depends on the layer structure, order quantity and production feasibility.
The referenced product can be supplied on 3-inch or 6-inch cores. Buyers should also specify the maximum roll diameter, roll weight and unwind direction.
Food-contact suitability must be confirmed for the exact resin, PE formulation, tie layer, additives, recycled content, food type, contact temperature and destination-market regulations. Request grade-specific compliance documents before ordering.
PET and PE are individually recyclable polymers, but a bonded PET/PE multilayer structure may not be accepted in every recycling stream. Practical recyclability depends on the final structure, local collection systems, sorting technology and market regulations.
Yes. Trial material should be tested on the intended thermoforming and sealing line to confirm forming depth, wall distribution, flange flatness, cutting, seal strength, leakage and opening performance.
Provide the food application, total thickness, width, core size, roll diameter, forming depth, seal type, top film, barrier requirement, order quantity and destination. A current material sample or technical drawing is also useful.
