Specification Note: Available thickness, width, surface finish, coating and UV performance depend on the exact PC grade and production specification. If your project requires a defined UV weathering standard, light transmission value, haze value or service-life requirement, please include it in your inquiry so the appropriate grade can be confirmed.
Polycarbonate provides excellent impact resistance, clarity and dimensional stability, but long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation can affect the appearance and mechanical properties of unprotected PC. UV resistant polycarbonate film is therefore produced using UV-stabilized formulations, protective functional layers or surface coatings depending on the grade.
The UV protection helps reduce degradation associated with sunlight exposure, including excessive yellowing, loss of optical appearance or deterioration of surface performance. The exact weathering capability depends on the UV protection system, film thickness, coating structure, climate and duration of exposure.
| Property | Standard PC Film | UV Resistant PC Film |
|---|---|---|
| UV Exposure | Better suited to indoor or protected applications unless specifically stabilized | Designed for applications where increased UV resistance is required |
| Outdoor Use | Application dependent | More suitable for selected outdoor and sunlight-exposed applications |
| Yellowing Resistance | Depends on base grade and exposure conditions | UV protection is intended to reduce changes caused by UV exposure |
| Impact Resistance | High | High, subject to coating and grade |
| Printing | Suitable grades available | Suitable printable UV-resistant grades can be selected |
UV resistance: Selected grades provide improved resistance to degradation caused by ultraviolet exposure.
Optical clarity: Clear grades are suitable for applications requiring visibility and light transmission.
High impact strength: Polycarbonate provides strong resistance to impact and mechanical damage.
Dimensional stability: Suitable for overlays, panels and converted components where dimensional consistency is important.
Heat resistance: PC offers better thermal performance than many common transparent commodity plastics.
Surface options: Polished, matte, brushed, diamond and other textured finishes are available according to grade.
Functional coating options: Anti-scratch, anti-fog and other functional treatments can be discussed for specific applications.
Processing flexibility: Suitable grades can be printed, cut, formed or fabricated into finished components.
Surface finish has a direct effect on appearance, glare, visibility, printing and the tactile feel of the finished part. The required finish should therefore be selected according to both visual and functional requirements.
| Surface | Characteristics | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Polished / Polished | Smooth surfaces with high clarity | Optical covers, clear panels, printed overlays and displays |
| Polished / Matte | Clear front surface combined with reduced-glare texture | Control panels, graphic overlays and equipment interfaces |
| Polished / Brushed | Decorative or functional textured surface | Panels, decorative parts and specialty applications |
| Polished / Diamond | Patterned texture for appearance or light diffusion | Lighting, decorative and industrial components |
UV resistant PC film can be selected for indoor and outdoor applications that require impact resistance, dimensional stability, optical properties and improved resistance to sunlight exposure.

Polycarbonate film is widely used for graphic overlays and printed control panels because suitable grades can support screen printing and other printing processes. Printing may be applied to the first or second surface depending on the film structure, coating and finished-product design.
If the film includes a UV-resistant, anti-scratch or other functional coating, the printable side should be confirmed before production. Ink compatibility, adhesion, curing conditions and forming requirements should be tested using the intended production process.
Suitable polycarbonate film and thin sheet grades can be cut, die-cut, punched or thermoformed into three-dimensional components. Processing conditions depend on thickness, coating, surface texture and the depth of the final formed part.
For applications involving thermoforming, film insert molding, deep forming or printing followed by forming, please provide your drawing and processing sequence before ordering so the appropriate PC grade can be evaluated.
UV resistance should not be evaluated only by the words “anti-UV” or “UV resistant.” For outdoor projects, buyers should define the required weathering method, exposure duration, acceptable color change, yellowness, haze or light-transmission change whenever these properties are critical.
Outdoor service life varies according to geographic location, solar radiation, installation angle, operating temperature, chemical exposure and cleaning conditions. If your project requires a defined outdoor lifetime, provide the test standard or performance requirement before material selection.

UV resistant polycarbonate film is a PC film grade designed with UV stabilization, a functional UV-protective layer or coating to improve resistance to ultraviolet exposure. It retains the impact resistance and processing advantages of polycarbonate while providing better performance for selected sunlight-exposed applications.
Polycarbonate has many strong mechanical and optical properties, but unprotected grades can change after prolonged UV exposure. Outdoor applications should therefore use an appropriate UV-stabilized or UV-protected grade where weathering performance is required.
Yes, suitable UV-resistant grades can be used for outdoor applications such as graphic overlays, equipment labels, panels and protective covers. The appropriate grade should be selected according to the required outdoor life, UV exposure, climate and performance standard.
The standard ranges currently listed are approximately 0.25-0.5 mm for film and 0.5-1.5 mm for sheet. Other thicknesses may be available according to the required grade, width, surface and order quantity.
Film generally refers to thinner, more flexible polycarbonate material supplied in thin gauges or rolls, while sheet refers to thicker material with greater rigidity. HSQY supplies both formats depending on the application and required thickness.
Yes, suitable grades can be printed. The printable surface, coating and ink system should be confirmed before production, especially when the film has a UV-resistant or scratch-resistant functional coating.
Suitable PC film grades can be thermoformed. Formability depends on thickness, coating, forming depth, heating conditions and the design of the finished component. A forming trial is recommended for demanding applications.
Anti-scratch surface treatment can be supplied for selected grades. If abrasion resistance is important, specify the intended application and required test method so the appropriate surface construction can be evaluated.
Outdoor life depends on the exact UV-protection system, geographic UV exposure, temperature, installation, chemicals and required appearance. If a specific service life is required, provide the weathering standard and acceptable performance limits rather than relying on a general outdoor-use description.
