Product Description

Frosted PVC Thin Plastic Sheet Manufacturer

HSQY manufactures frosted PVC thin plastic sheets and matte rigid PVC films for printing, folding boxes, blister packaging, stationery, cards, retail displays, decorative panels and industrial conversion.

Available thicknesses range from approximately 0.06mm to 2mm. Thin specifications can be supplied as rolls or cut sheets, while thicker specifications are generally supplied as flat sheets according to the required width, length and surface finish.

The frosted surface reduces direct glare, lowers visible fingerprints and creates a translucent appearance while allowing part of the incident light to pass through.

Available surface combinations include matte/matte, matte/glossy, fine frosted, coarse frosted, velvet/matte, embossed and customized textured finishes.

Standard colors include clear frosted, translucent white and selected transparent colors. Opaque white, black and customized colors can also be evaluated according to the required thickness and order quantity.

Printing, folding-box, thermoforming, UV-stabilized, antistatic and flame-retardant PVC sheets require application-specific formulations. These properties should be included in the approved specification rather than assumed for every frosted PVC grade.

What Is a Frosted PVC Thin Plastic Sheet?

A frosted PVC thin plastic sheet is a rigid or semi-rigid polyvinyl chloride material with a textured matte surface that scatters reflected and transmitted light.

Unlike polished clear PVC, the frosted surface provides lower gloss and reduced direct visibility through the sheet.

Depending on the production process, the material can be frosted on one side or both sides.

One-side frosted PVC combines a matte surface with a smoother or glossier reverse side, while double-side frosted PVC provides a low-gloss texture on both surfaces.

Frosted PVC is also described as matte PVC sheet, translucent PVC film, sanded PVC sheet, clear matte vinyl, rigid frosted vinyl and textured transparent PVC film.

PVC Film vs. PVC Thin Sheet

Thickness Direction General Description Typical Applications
0.06-0.10mm Very thin PVC film with high flexibility Printing film, overlays, lamination, labels and decorative layers
0.10-0.25mm Thin film suitable for roll conversion and lightweight products Folding boxes, packaging windows, covers, cards and stationery
0.25-0.50mm Thin sheet with increased body and dimensional stability POP displays, menus, cards, signs, folders and packaging inserts
0.50-1.00mm Semi-rigid sheet for formed and fabricated components Display panels, decorative inserts, thermoformed parts and supported partitions
1.00-2.00mm Thicker rigid sheet requiring application-specific processing Display components, machine-formed parts, panels and custom fabrication

These thickness ranges are general selection directions. The required stiffness, flexibility and forming performance depend on the PVC formulation and finished-product design.

One-Side and Double-Side Frosted PVC

Surface Combination Visual Effect Typical Use
Matte / Matte Low-gloss texture on both sides Printing, cards, folding boxes, stationery and diffused displays
Matte / Glossy Frosted appearance on one side with a smoother reverse side Packaging windows, decorative panels and products requiring two visual finishes
Velvet / Matte Fine tactile texture combined with a low-gloss reverse side Premium cards, overlays, menus and decorative surfaces
Fine Frosted Uniform fine texture with comparatively high light transmission Printing, packaging, signage and translucent inserts
Coarse Frosted Stronger surface texture with greater visual obscuration Decorative panels, privacy inserts and textured packaging

Light Transmission, Haze and Privacy

Frosted PVC allows light to pass through while reducing the visibility of objects behind the sheet.

The actual visual result depends on sheet thickness, surface roughness, pigmentation, distance from the object, lighting direction and brightness on each side.

Buyers requiring controlled optical performance should specify visible light transmission, haze, clarity, gloss and acceptable color variation.

A general frosted finish does not automatically provide complete privacy, calibrated LED diffusion or guaranteed hotspot elimination.

For privacy panels, the customer should evaluate samples at the intended viewing distance and lighting conditions.

Printing on Frosted PVC Sheet

Frosted rigid PVC is widely used for printed cards, promotional displays, packaging, menus, shelf signs and decorative graphics.

Printing Method Typical Application Required Checks
Screen Printing Cards, signs, overlays, menus and packaging Ink type, treated side, drying, adhesion and fold resistance
Offset Printing Folding boxes, stationery, covers and promotional sheets Ink compatibility, static control, drying and registration
UV Inkjet Printing POP displays, signs, customized graphics and short production runs UV energy, ink adhesion, sheet flatness and brittleness after curing
Solvent or Eco-Solvent Inkjet Signage, graphics and promotional displays Solvent resistance, drying time, distortion and ink migration
Digital Printing Personalized cards, labels and short-run packaging Printer qualification, primer or coating requirement and heat exposure

Customers should test the actual ink system because printing performance can differ between the frosted side and the polished side.

Frosted PVC for Folding Boxes

Frosted PVC can be die cut, scored and folded into translucent packaging boxes for cosmetics, gifts, stationery, electronics and promotional products.

The matte finish can reduce fingerprints and create a softer appearance than fully polished transparent packaging.

Folding performance depends on thickness, resin formulation, sheet orientation, crease-rule dimensions and processing temperature.

The production sample should be evaluated for fold whitening, cracking, spring-back, glue adhesion and ultrasonic or high-frequency welding compatibility.

Frosted PVC for Blister Packaging and Thermoforming

Thermoforming-grade frosted PVC can be formed into blister packs, product inserts, covers, trays and decorative components.

Heating temperature, forming time, mold temperature, draw depth, cooling and sheet orientation should be optimized for the selected thickness.

Deep drawing can change the appearance and density of the frosted texture, particularly in highly stretched areas.

Buyers should test the formed part for wall-thickness distribution, clarity variation, texture retention and dimensional stability.

Frequently Asked Questions About Frosted PVC Sheets

What is a frosted PVC thin plastic sheet?

It is a rigid or semi-rigid PVC film or sheet with a textured translucent surface that reduces gloss and direct visibility.

What is the difference between frosted and matte PVC?

The terms are often used interchangeably. The exact appearance should be defined by the surface sample, gloss, roughness, haze and light-transmission requirements.

What thicknesses are available?

HSQY supplies frosted PVC from approximately 0.06mm to 2mm.

Is material below 0.25mm a sheet or a film?

Thin continuous material below approximately 0.25mm is commonly described as film, although commercial naming varies by market.

Is one-side frosted PVC available?

Yes. One side can have a frosted finish while the reverse side is smoother or glossier.

Is double-side frosted PVC available?

Yes. Matte or frosted textures can be produced on both surfaces.

Can the frosted texture be customized?

Fine, medium, coarse, velvet and embossed surface effects can be evaluated according to an approved sample.

Can frosted PVC be printed?

Yes. It can support screen, offset, UV inkjet and selected digital printing after ink and adhesion testing.

Which side should be printed?

The required side depends on the desired appearance and ink system. The matte and polished sides should be tested separately.

Yes. Suitable grades can be die cut, scored, folded, glued or welded into translucent packaging boxes.

Can frosted PVC be thermoformed?

An appropriate thermoforming grade can be formed into blister packs, inserts, covers and custom components.

Does the frosted texture remain after thermoforming?

The surface may change in highly stretched areas, so texture retention should be tested using the actual mold.

Does frosted PVC provide complete privacy?

Not necessarily. Privacy depends on texture, thickness, lighting and the distance between the sheet and the object behind it.

Can frosted PVC be used as an LED diffuser?

It may diffuse light, but professional lighting applications require controlled transmission, haze, hotspot hiding and heat-aging tests.

Can thin PVC be used as a self-supporting partition?

Thin PVC normally requires a frame, backing or supporting structure and should not be treated as structural or safety glazing.

Can frosted PVC sheets be used outdoors?

Long-term outdoor use requires a UV-stabilized grade developed and tested for the intended climate and exposure period.

Is standard frosted PVC flame retardant?

Flame performance should not be assumed. A flame-retardant formulation and test report for the exact thickness are required.

Is antistatic frosted PVC available?

Antistatic grades can be evaluated according to the required surface-resistance range and operating conditions.

Can frosted PVC be laser cut?

PVC should not be cut or engraved with ordinary laser equipment because hazardous gases and dust may be generated. Mechanical cutting is recommended.
