Custom color flexible PVC film is a plasticized vinyl material manufactured with pigments or colorants to produce transparent colored, translucent or opaque flexible film.
Unlike surface printing alone, the base PVC film itself can be produced in the required color, allowing the finished material to retain its colored appearance through cutting, folding and conversion.
The final visual result depends on pigment formulation, film thickness, transparency, surface texture and lighting conditions, so color matching should be evaluated on the actual production thickness and surface.
| Color Type | Appearance | Typical Packaging Use |
|---|---|---|
| Transparent Colored PVC | Colored while retaining see-through visibility | Display bags, accessory packaging, promotional pouches and transparent covers |
| Translucent PVC | Allows partial light transmission with reduced direct visibility | Decorative packaging, specialty covers and color-coded products |
| Opaque PVC | Solid color with limited visibility through the film | Branded bags, protective covers and packaging where contents do not need to remain visible |
| Custom Color PVC | Color developed against an approved reference | OEM, private-label and repeat branded packaging programs |
For custom color production, provide an existing PVC sample, finished product sample or agreed color reference whenever possible.
The target color should be evaluated using the intended production thickness because the same pigment formulation can appear lighter or darker when film gauge changes.
For repeat programs requiring tighter color control, buyers can specify an agreed color-tolerance method and acceptance range before bulk production.
Batch-to-batch color consistency is important for branded packaging, coordinated product ranges and repeat OEM orders.
Where a numerical color-difference requirement is used, the target ΔE value and measurement conditions should be agreed before production rather than assumed after the material has been manufactured.
An approved production sample should be retained as the reference for future repeat orders whenever color accuracy is commercially important.
Film thickness can influence the visual depth and opacity of colored PVC, especially for transparent and translucent grades.
A thicker transparent-colored film can appear visually deeper than a thinner film made with the same color formulation.
Color approval should therefore be completed on the intended production thickness rather than on a sample with a different gauge.
Glossy surfaces reflect more direct light and can make a color appear brighter or more saturated.
Matte surfaces reduce direct reflection and can create a softer visual effect, while embossed textures can change how light is scattered across the film.
When precise appearance is required, color and surface finish should be approved together instead of treating them as separate specifications.
| Application | Typical Purchasing Priority |
|---|---|
| Colored Packaging Bags | Color consistency, softness, thickness and welding performance |
| Transparent Color Pouches | Color depth, transparency, surface appearance and seam quality |
| Zipper Bags | Film flexibility, zipper compatibility, color and repeated handling |
| Promotional Packaging | Brand color matching, printing and finished appearance |
| Document & Accessory Bags | Color, transparency, thickness and converting efficiency |
| Protective Covers | Color coding, flexibility, dimensions and fabrication method |
| OEM Branded Packaging | Color tolerance, thickness tolerance and repeat-order consistency |
Typical colored flexible PVC film specifications are approximately 0.3mm to 1.5mm, but the final gauge should be selected according to the packaging construction, required flexibility and converting process.
Smaller bags and flexible pouches generally require a balance between low finished weight, easy folding and enough material body for the closure and seam design.
Larger covers and packaging products can require more material body depending on panel dimensions, load, support and handling conditions.
When replacing an existing colored PVC film, provide the current thickness, softness, surface finish, transparency and a physical color sample where possible.
Softness affects how PVC film folds, drapes, welds, sews and feels in the finished packaging product.
Two colored PVC films with the same thickness can behave differently when their formulations use different plasticizer levels or hardness values.
For repeat OEM production, provide the target PHR, Shore A hardness or an approved reference sample when precise softness matching is required.
| Surface | Appearance | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Glossy | Bright and reflective | Display packaging, promotional bags and transparent-color products |
| Matte | Lower reflection and softer visual appearance | Premium packaging, decorative covers and branded pouches |
| Smooth | Uniform surface | General packaging and printing applications |
| Embossed | Textured or patterned surface | Decorative bags and specialty converted products |
High-frequency welding can be evaluated for joining compatible colored PVC layers used in bags, pouches and protective packaging products.
Welding performance depends on film thickness, formulation, softness, electrode design, pressure, power and production cycle.
The final material should be tested using the actual production color and formulation because changes in additives and pigment systems can affect processing conditions.
Suitable colored PVC grades can be evaluated for heat-sealing applications according to the finished packaging design and production equipment.
Seal conditions depend on formulation, thickness, temperature, pressure and dwell time, so production trials are recommended before bulk manufacturing.
Colored PVC packaging can be combined with sewing, zipper closures, fabric trim, handles or other components depending on the finished product construction.
Sewing performance depends on film thickness, softness, needle, thread, stitch spacing and reinforcement design.
For zipper bags, provide the zipper type and attachment method together with an existing sample or drawing where possible.
Colored PVC film can be combined with logos, text, patterns and other printed graphics for branded or promotional packaging.
The base PVC color can influence printed ink appearance, particularly with transparent or partially opaque ink systems.
Provide the printing process, ink system and artwork requirements before production, and evaluate print adhesion using the exact colored film formulation.
Custom roll width should be selected according to the finished packaging dimensions, printing equipment and downstream cutting layout.
Selecting a suitable slit-roll width can reduce edge trimming and improve material utilization during bag and pouch production.
For repeat production, provide the required roll width, roll length or weight, core diameter and maximum roll diameter where applicable.
Flexible PVC surfaces remain in close contact when wound into rolls, so blocking behavior can influence unwinding and downstream converting.
If easy unwinding, automatic feeding or high-speed bag production is important, specify the required anti-blocking and roll-handling conditions before production.
| Parameter | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Color Reference | Defines the approved appearance for production |

Standard colored flexible PVC should not automatically be assumed to provide anti-static, flame-retardant, UV-resistant, low-temperature or chemical-resistant performance.
If the finished packaging requires a defined functional property, provide the target performance value, applicable test method and service conditions before the formulation is selected.
Food-contact and medical applications should also be evaluated separately according to the destination market and applicable requirements.
Please specify whether the required film is transparent colored, translucent or opaque.
Provide an approved color sample or agreed color reference and any required color-tolerance specification.
Specify the required thickness, roll width, roll length or weight, softness or hardness and surface finish.
