Clear rigid PVC sheet is a transparent polyvinyl chloride material designed to provide a combination of clarity, rigidity, dimensional stability and practical converting performance.
Depending on thickness and production process, rigid PVC can be supplied as thin roll stock for printing, folding boxes and packaging conversion or as thicker flat sheets for thermoforming and fabricated plastic components.
The exact PVC formulation should be selected according to the end use. Printing grades, folding-box grades, thermoforming grades, anti-static materials, UV-protected materials and regulated packaging grades should not automatically be treated as the same specification.
| Process | Listed Thickness Range | General Application Direction |
|---|---|---|
| Extruded PVC Sheet | 0.15–6.5mm | Thermoforming, thicker packaging, fabricated components and rigid sheet applications |
| Calendered PVC Film | 0.05–1.2mm | Printing, folding boxes, packaging windows and thin-gauge converting |
The most appropriate manufacturing route depends on thickness, surface requirements, converting equipment and finished application. Buyers should specify the application rather than selecting extrusion or calendering from thickness alone.
Transparent rigid PVC is used for clear folding boxes and plastic packaging that allows the packaged product to remain visible while providing a rigid transparent enclosure.
Folding-box converters should specify sheet thickness, stiffness, crease performance, printing process, die-cutting method and required finished dimensions before production.
Where whitening at fold lines or crease appearance is critical, the intended PVC grade and folding process should be tested on production material before bulk conversion.
Thin clear PVC film can be used as a transparent window in paperboard cartons and other retail packaging where product visibility is required.
Window-film projects should specify gauge, dimensions, surface finish, bonding method, carton material, printing requirements and converting speed to ensure the supplied PVC is suitable for the packaging line.
Rigid PVC can be used as a printable substrate for packaging, signs, graphics and promotional products when the sheet surface is compatible with the selected ink system.
Offset printing, screen printing and other printing processes require the appropriate surface condition, static control and curing parameters. Anti-static performance should be specified as a grade requirement rather than assumed for every PVC sheet.
For volume printing, buyers should provide printing technology, ink system, sheet gauge, surface requirement and any subsequent folding or thermoforming process.
Clear rigid PVC can be thermoformed into transparent packaging components, trays, blisters, covers and other formed products using suitable heat and forming conditions.
During forming, the sheet stretches over the mold and finished wall thickness can vary across the part. Starting gauge should therefore be selected according to mold dimensions, draw depth, corner geometry and minimum finished wall requirements.
Production trials should verify heating uniformity, forming definition, transparency, stress whitening, shrinkage and trimming performance before commercial-scale production.
Thermoforming-grade clear PVC can be evaluated for blister packs, clamshells, retail trays and transparent formed packaging where product visibility is important.
Buyers should specify cavity depth, sealing or backing material, forming equipment, package dimensions, product weight and any regulatory requirements associated with the packaged product.
Clear PVC is selected for applications where the product, printed graphic or component behind the sheet needs to remain visible.
Actual transparency, haze, tint, gloss, surface defects and visual quality depend on the material grade and production specification. Projects with controlled optical requirements should define measurable acceptance criteria and approve a production sample before bulk manufacturing.
Rigid PVC provides useful resistance to moisture and many chemicals, which supports its use in packaging, printing and industrial conversion applications.
Chemical compatibility should not be assumed for every substance. Where the finished product will contact cleaners, solvents, acids, alkalis or other chemicals, provide the exact chemical, concentration, temperature and exposure duration for compatibility review.
Standard clear PVC and UV-protected PVC should be treated as different material specifications. Outdoor durability should not automatically be assumed for every clear PVC sheet.
If prolonged sunlight or outdoor exposure is required, specify the installation environment, expected service period and required retention of transparency, color and physical properties so an appropriate UV-stabilized grade can be reviewed.
Rigid PVC can exhibit self-extinguishing behavior depending on formulation and test conditions. This property should not be treated as a specific fire classification unless the exact supplied material has been tested to the required standard.
For applications requiring a defined flammability rating or building-code classification, provide the required test standard and request supporting documentation for the exact PVC grade.
Static control can be useful in printing and converting operations where thin plastic sheets may attract dust or adhere to one another during feeding.
If anti-static performance is required, buyers should specify it as part of the product specification and confirm the applicable surface treatment, performance range and test method for the quoted material.
Selected rigid PVC grades may be produced for food-contact packaging, but standard clear PVC should not automatically be treated as food-contact compliant.
Food-packaging buyers should provide the food type, direct or indirect contact conditions, temperature, contact duration and destination market and request current documentation for the exact quoted formulation.
Medical-device and pharmaceutical packaging require application-specific PVC formulations, controlled specifications and appropriate supporting documentation.
A standard clear PVC sheet specification should not be treated as confirmation of suitability for a regulated medical or pharmaceutical application. Buyers should identify the exact packaging use, sterilization or processing conditions, destination market and required standards before material selection.
HSQY currently lists both extrusion and calendering for clear rigid PVC production. Extrusion covers the listed 0.15–6.5mm range, while calendering covers the listed 0.05–1.2mm range.
The production method should be selected according to gauge, surface quality, roll or sheet format and the intended converting process.

Clear rigid PVC sheet is used for folding boxes, packaging windows, printing, thermoforming, blister packaging and other transparent converted plastic products.
The terms often overlap in thin gauges. In this product range, thinner calendered PVC from 0.05–1.2mm is commonly supplied as film or roll stock, while extruded PVC from 0.15–6.5mm also covers thicker rigid sheet applications.
The current product specification lists extruded PVC from 0.15–6.5mm and calendered PVC from 0.05–1.2mm.
The current listed roll-width range is 100mm to 1500mm.
Current standard sheet sizes include 700 × 1000mm, 915 × 1830mm and 1220 × 2440mm, with customized dimensions also listed.
The current product specification lists clear, transparent blue-tinted, red, yellow and customized colors.
Yes. Clear folding boxes are one of the main applications. Sheet gauge, crease performance, die cutting, printing and folding requirements should be confirmed for the selected grade.
Yes. Thin transparent PVC can be used as a packaging window where the required gauge and bonding process are compatible with the carton design.
Yes. Clear PVC can be evaluated for offset, screen and other compatible printing processes. Ink adhesion, surface condition and curing should be tested on the actual production material.
Anti-static performance should be specified as a grade requirement. It should not be assumed that every standard clear PVC sheet has the same static-control properties.
Yes. Thermoforming is one of the listed processing directions. Starting thickness and forming conditions should be selected according to mold geometry and finished wall requirements.
Suitable thermoforming-grade rigid PVC can be evaluated for vacuum forming into blisters, trays, covers and other transparent components.
Yes. Thermoforming-grade rigid PVC can be used for selected blister packaging. Cavity geometry, sealing system, packaged product and compliance requirements should be specified.
Standard clear PVC should not automatically be assumed suitable for long-term outdoor use. Where UV exposure is expected, confirm an appropriate UV-stabilized grade for the required service conditions.
Rigid PVC can exhibit self-extinguishing behavior depending on formulation and test conditions. If a specific fire rating is required, request test documentation for the exact supplied grade.
Rigid PVC offers useful resistance to many chemicals, but compatibility depends on the chemical, concentration, temperature and exposure duration.
