Product Description
HSQY Plastic Group supplies PVC/PVDC coated rigid film for pharmaceutical blister packaging manufacturers, solid-dose packaging converters and industrial distributors. The film combines a thermoformable polyvinyl chloride (PVC) substrate with a polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) barrier coating for applications that require additional protection against moisture and oxygen.
PVC/PVDC film is considered for packaging tablets, capsules and other suitable pharmaceutical products when the protection provided by plain PVC is insufficient for the formulation. Its final barrier performance depends on the PVC base film, PVDC coating specification, film thickness and the complete blister packaging structure.
HSQY's listed product range includes transparent, white and customized color options. Film thickness, web width, coating weight, roll dimensions and required material documentation should be specified for the intended blister packaging equipment and qualified product.
PVC/PVDC film is a coated packaging structure consisting of a rigid PVC forming substrate and a PVDC functional barrier layer. The PVC provides thermoforming characteristics for creating blister cavities, while PVDC helps reduce the transmission of moisture and oxygen through the forming web.
In a pharmaceutical blister packaging process, the film is heated and formed into cavities, filled with the intended product and sealed using a compatible lidding material. The complete pack must satisfy the product's stability, sealing and regulatory requirements.
PVDC coating weight is an important parameter for material selection. Higher or different coating specifications may change barrier performance and processing behavior. Buyers should evaluate actual water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) and oxygen transmission rate (OTR) results for the selected film and test conditions.

The PVDC coating provides an additional barrier layer on the PVC substrate. This can improve resistance to water vapor and oxygen transmission compared with a suitable uncoated PVC film. The improvement depends on the coating formulation, coating weight, film structure and testing conditions.
Moisture barrier is particularly important when selecting packaging for hygroscopic tablets and capsules. Oxygen protection may also be important for formulations sensitive to oxidation. The actual protection required should be established through product stability studies and packaging evaluation.
Pharmaceutical converters should request material-specific WVTR and OTR values rather than relying only on general descriptions such as high-barrier or moisture-resistant film.
| Material | Structure | Selection Considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Rigid PVC | Single PVC Forming Web | Thermoforming and protection needs suitable for plain PVC |
| PVC/PVDC | PVC with PVDC Barrier Coating | Additional moisture or oxygen barrier, coating specification and forming compatibility |
| PVC/PE/PVDC | PVC and PE with a PVDC Barrier Layer | Specified multilayer barrier structure and deep-forming requirements |
| PVC/PCTFE | PVC Laminated with PCTFE | Higher moisture protection requirements and material qualification |
PVDC Barrier Layer: Provides additional resistance to moisture and oxygen transmission in suitable coated structures.
Thermoformable PVC Substrate: Provides the forming material for compatible pharmaceutical blister packaging processes.
Custom Barrier Requirements: PVDC coating specifications can be evaluated according to required package performance.
Film Appearance: Color and transparency requirements can be defined for the selected pharmaceutical material grade.
Converting Compatibility: Film width, winding direction and roll dimensions can be specified for the packaging line.
Sealing System Evaluation: The selected film should be tested with the intended lidding foil and heat-seal coating.
Application Qualification: The complete blister pack requires validation according to the packaged product and target market.
PVC/PVDC film can be evaluated for tablet blister packaging when the drug formulation requires additional moisture or oxygen protection. The selected film must meet the intended cavity design, sealing requirements and stability objectives.
For hard capsules and other solid-dose products, material selection should account for the cavity geometry, forming depth and sensitivity of the packaged medicine. The coating and PVC substrate must be compatible with the packaging equipment.
PVDC-coated forming film may be considered where a plain PVC forming web does not provide the required protection. Barrier selection should be based on actual performance data and the stability requirements of the intended formulation.
HSQY also supplies rigid PVC sheet materials for printing, cards and other conversion applications. Those products may use different surface finishes, film thicknesses and formulations and should be specified separately from pharmaceutical PVDC-coated film.
Pharmaceutical Packaging Application
PVC Medical Packaging Sheet
Identify the packaged pharmaceutical product's moisture and oxygen sensitivity, intended storage conditions and target shelf life. Establish the required packaging barrier performance based on the product stability requirements.
Provide the required PVC base thickness, PVDC coating specification and any applicable test criteria. The coating weight should be stated separately from the PVC substrate thickness.
Specify film web width, roll dimensions, core requirements, winding direction, blister cavity depth and the thermoforming machine model. These parameters influence material handling and forming performance.
Identify the intended lidding foil, heat-seal coating and operating conditions. Seal integrity should be evaluated on the complete packaging system using appropriate process validation.
Request the technical specifications and quality documents applicable to the selected film grade. Pharmaceutical suitability must be established for the specific formulation, intended product contact and relevant regulatory requirements.
The following reference documents relate to general rigid PVC sheet materials. A specific pharmaceutical PVC/PVDC film specification should include its PVC substrate, PVDC coating and applicable barrier test information.

The selection of a pharmaceutical barrier film requires review of material composition, coating specifications, process controls, barrier test data and applicable product-contact requirements. The required documents should be defined for the intended drug product and destination market.
Company certificates and general PVC material reports should be reviewed according to their current validity and applicability. General industrial material testing does not replace qualification of the specific pharmaceutical PVC/PVDC film.

PVC/PVDC film is a pharmaceutical forming material made from rigid PVC with a PVDC barrier coating. The PVDC layer can improve protection against moisture and oxygen compared with a suitable uncoated PVC film.
Plain rigid PVC is a thermoformable plastic substrate. PVC/PVDC has an additional PVDC barrier coating. Buyers should compare the actual barrier performance and forming specifications of the selected grades.
PVDC coating weight is one factor influencing moisture and oxygen barrier properties. The selected coating formulation, weight and testing conditions determine the material's measured performance.
WVTR means water vapor transmission rate, and OTR means oxygen transmission rate. These measurements help packaging manufacturers assess whether a selected film provides suitable barrier protection for a particular product under stated test conditions.
PVC/PVDC film can be evaluated for suitable tablet and capsule blister packaging. Final selection depends on the drug formulation, stability requirements, package design and applicable material qualification.
A selected PVC/PVDC forming film can be evaluated with compatible aluminum blister lidding foil and heat-seal coating. The complete sealing process should be validated for the required seal strength and package integrity.
No. PVC/PVDC and PVC/PE/PVDC have different layer structures. The additional PE layer may serve a specific function within a multilayer film. Buyers should provide the exact construction required by their packaging process.
The product range lists 0.1–3mm thickness and reference sheet sizes of A4, 500 × 765mm and 700 × 1000mm. Pharmaceutical PVC/PVDC coating and roll specifications should be confirmed for the exact grade being ordered.
Please provide the PVC base thickness, required PVDC coating weight or barrier data, film width, roll specifications, color, machine model, lidding foil, order quantity and destination.
RoHS and REACH documentation does not by itself establish that a film is suitable for direct pharmaceutical contact. The selected packaging material must meet the applicable pharmaceutical material requirements and be qualified for its intended use.
The listed product has a minimum order quantity of 2000kg. Requirements for a specific PVDC coating specification, film width or customized material should be confirmed when requesting pricing.
