Semi Automatic Food Tray Sealing Machine

HSQY semi automatic food tray sealing machine is a compact heat-sealing system designed for ready meals, takeaway food, meat, seafood, vegetables, fruit, bakery products and other tray-packed foods. Operators manually load pre-filled trays into the mold, while the machine controls film feeding, heat sealing and film cutting.

The HS250T, HS300T and HS280YT models are designed for small and medium food processors, central kitchens, restaurants, catering operations, meal-prep companies and food packaging businesses that need more consistent sealing than a manual tray sealer without investing in a fully automatic production line.

These semi automatic tray sealers can be matched with compatible PP, PET, CPET and aluminum trays using the correct sealing mold and lidding film. Standard sealing performance depends on the complete tray-film combination, sealing temperature, pressure, dwell time and tray flange condition.

What Is a Semi Automatic Tray Sealing Machine?

A semi automatic tray sealing machine combines manual tray handling with automated sealing operations. The operator places a filled tray into the matching mold and starts the cycle, while the machine feeds the lidding film, applies controlled heat and pressure, seals the film to the tray flange and cuts the film around the tray.

This configuration provides a practical step between a basic manual tray sealer and a fully automatic inline tray sealing system. It is particularly suitable when production volume does not yet justify automated tray loading and conveyor integration.

The HS250T, HS300T and HS280YT models listed on this page are primarily positioned for standard tray sealing. Modified atmosphere packaging, vacuum packaging and vacuum skin packaging require dedicated machine configurations and should not be assumed to be included with these standard models.

How the Semi Automatic Tray Sealer Works

1. Load the Filled Food Tray

The operator places a pre-filled tray into the dedicated sealing mold. The tray dimensions, flange design and mold must match correctly.

2. Start the Sealing Cycle

The operator activates the machine after the tray is correctly positioned. The sealing process then proceeds automatically according to the machine settings.

3. Feed the Lidding Film

Roll film is automatically advanced over the tray. The original equipment information references photoelectric and disc sensing for accurate film feeding.

4. Heat Seal the Tray

Heat and pressure activate the lidding-film sealant against the tray flange. Correct sealing temperature and dwell time depend on the tray material and film structure.

5. Cut the Film

The machine cuts the film around the tray according to the mold and cutting configuration, producing a finished sealed package.

6. Remove the Sealed Tray

The operator removes the finished tray, visually checks the seal and loads the next tray for another cycle.

Compatible Food Tray Materials

The machine can be configured for different preformed food trays. The tray material alone does not determine sealing compatibility; the tray sealing surface and the lidding-film sealant layer must be matched.

Tray Material Typical Application Sealing Requirement
PP Ready meals, takeaway meals and chilled foods Use a lidding film designed to seal to the specific PP tray
APET / PET-Based Tray Chilled meat, produce, deli and prepared food Confirm tray seal layer and compatible lidding-film sealant
CPET Ovenable and reheatable ready-meal packaging Use a lidding system validated for the specific CPET tray and end-use temperature
Aluminum Ready meals and ovenable food packaging Film, lacquer, rim design and seal parameters must be matched to the tray

How to Choose the Correct Lidding Film

A tray sealing machine cannot compensate for an incompatible tray and film combination. Before purchasing the machine or mold, confirm the exact tray material, sealing layer and lidding-film structure.

Important lidding-film parameters include roll width, roll diameter, sealant layer, sealing-temperature window, film thickness, anti-fog requirement, easy-peel or lock-seal behavior and whether the film is printed or unprinted.

For the HS250T, maximum roll width is 245mm; HS300T supports up to 310mm; HS280YT supports up to 250mm. All three models currently list a maximum roll diameter of 180mm.

Standard Tray Sealing vs MAP Tray Sealing

Standard heat sealing and Modified Atmosphere Packaging are different packaging processes. Buyers should select the machine according to the required shelf-life system rather than assuming every tray sealer includes gas flushing.

Comparison Standard Semi Automatic Tray Sealer MAP Tray Sealer
Packaging Process Heat seals lidding film onto the tray Removes or displaces air and introduces a controlled gas atmosphere before sealing
Main Equipment Sealing station, film-feed system and mold Requires dedicated gas/vacuum system and appropriate controls
Packaging Materials Compatible tray and heat-seal lidding film Usually requires a validated barrier tray and barrier lidding film system
Typical Use Takeaway meals, prepared meals and general tray sealing Fresh meat, seafood, chilled meals and products requiring a validated modified atmosphere

For applications requiring gas flushing, vacuum replacement or Modified Atmosphere Packaging, see the HSQY            Gas Flush MAP Tray Sealing Machine    .

Custom Tray Sealing Molds

Tray sealing molds are size-specific components. A tray should not be selected only because its dimensions are smaller than the machine's listed maximum dimensions. The actual rim geometry, corner radius, flange width, tray depth and film-cutting profile must match the mold.

HSQY can discuss customized molds for different tray formats. The original machine specification describes a sliding mold design intended to support faster mold changes.

Buyers planning to run multiple tray sizes should provide all tray drawings or physical samples before ordering so that mold quantity, changeover method and future expansion requirements can be evaluated.

Key Features of HSQY Semi Automatic Tray Sealers

Semi Automatic Operation

Manual tray loading is combined with automatic film feeding, sealing and cutting. This reduces investment and machine footprint compared with a fully automatic inline system.

Automatic Film Feeding

The machine uses film-feed control to advance the roll film consistently through the sealing cycle. The existing product information references photoelectric and disc sensors for film positioning.

Custom Mold Options

Dedicated molds can be developed around different tray sizes and flange geometries within the machine's dimensional limits.

Compact Equipment Footprint

Equipment weights range from approximately 29kg to 34kg, making the series suitable for food operations where production space is limited.

Low Rated Power

Current listed power ratings range from 0.6kW to 0.8kW with a 220V / 50Hz supply. Buyers should confirm local voltage and frequency compatibility before purchasing.

Stainless Steel Construction

The existing product description specifies stainless-steel construction to support cleaning, corrosion resistance and use in food-packaging environments.

Applications of Semi Automatic Food Tray Sealing Machines

Ready Meals and Takeaway Food

PP and CPET ready-meal trays can be sealed for central kitchens, restaurant takeaway, catering meals and prepared-food production when paired with the correct lidding film.

Fresh Meat and Poultry

Standard heat sealing can be used for selected meat and poultry packages where the required shelf-life system does not require a dedicated MAP process.

Fish and Seafood

Preformed trays containing fish and seafood can be top sealed using an appropriate tray and film combination. Package integrity and storage conditions should be validated for the actual food product.

Fruit and Vegetables

Selected fresh produce trays can be sealed with appropriate films. Respiring produce may require perforated or specially selected films rather than a standard airtight film.

Bakery and Confectionery

Cakes, pastries, desserts and confectionery products can be sealed in compatible preformed trays for protection, handling and retail presentation.

Factors That Affect Tray Seal Quality

Factor Why It Matters
Tray Material The tray's seal surface must be compatible with the lidding-film sealant layer.
Flange Flatness Distorted or uneven tray rims can prevent uniform contact during sealing.
Food Contamination Oil, sauce, water or food particles on the flange can reduce seal integrity.
Temperature Insufficient temperature may produce a weak seal, while excessive heat can distort trays or damage film.
Dwell Time The sealing surfaces need sufficient contact time for the sealant layer to activate.
Mold Geometry The mold must support the tray correctly and match the rim and cutting profile.
