Flame-retardant performance should always be linked to the exact PP grade and tested thickness. A rating demonstrated at one thickness or color should not automatically be applied to every other sheet specification.
Send Your Flame Rating Requirements
Flame retardant polypropylene sheet is a modified PP material formulated to improve burning behavior compared with standard polypropylene. Flame-retardant additives are incorporated into the PP formulation to help the material meet a specified flammability requirement under defined test conditions.
Standard polypropylene is combustible. Adding flame-retardant functionality does not make the finished sheet completely non-combustible or fireproof. Performance depends on the formulation, thickness, ignition conditions, component design and applicable test standard.
Buyers should define the required flame standard before material selection rather than purchasing a sheet based only on the general term “flame retardant.”
UL 94 is used to classify the burning behavior of plastic materials under specified laboratory test conditions. V-0 is a vertical-burning classification used for suitable self-supporting plastic specimens.
UL 94 V-0 does not mean a material cannot burn. It also does not automatically certify a finished enclosure, machine, battery system or electrical product.
| Buyer Check | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Material Grade | The flame classification applies to a defined formulation rather than every polypropylene sheet |
| Tested Thickness | A rating at one thickness should not automatically be assumed at a thinner gauge |
| Color | Color masterbatch and formulation changes may require separate technical confirmation |
| Test Method | Very thin flexible materials may require a different applicable flammability test classification |
| Finished Product | Material-level performance does not replace the required end-product safety evaluation |
| Current Report | Confirm that the test report identifies the grade and specification being purchased |
UL 94 V-0 and FM 4910 are different requirements and should not be treated as interchangeable. Buyers working on semiconductor, cleanroom or FM-insured projects should clearly state whether FM 4910-listed material is mandatory.
| Item | UL 94 V-0 | FM 4910 |
|---|---|---|
| General Purpose | Material-level vertical flammability classification | Material evaluation commonly specified for semiconductor and cleanroom equipment |
| Typical Project Direction | Electrical insulation, equipment panels and industrial components | Cleanroom cabinets, wet benches and semiconductor-processing equipment |
| Interchangeable | No. Confirm the exact standard required by the customer drawing or project specification. | |
1. Improved Flame Performance: Selected formulations can be supplied for defined flame-retardant requirements such as UL 94 V-0 when confirmed at the applicable grade and thickness.
2. Electrical Insulation: Polypropylene is commonly used as an electrically insulating plastic. Projects requiring specific dielectric values should confirm the applicable test data for the selected flame-retardant grade.
3. Low Moisture Absorption: PP absorbs relatively little moisture, supporting its use in industrial panels, barriers and equipment components exposed to humid conditions.
4. Chemical Compatibility: Flame-retardant PP can provide resistance to many acids, alkalis and process chemicals. Compatibility must be checked against the actual chemical and operating conditions.
5. Lightweight Construction: PP has relatively low density, helping reduce component weight compared with many heavier rigid materials.
6. Custom Fabrication: Sheets can be evaluated for cutting, die cutting, punching, bending, forming, welding and other fabrication processes according to grade and thickness.
Electrical Insulation: Suitable grades can be fabricated into insulation barriers, liners, partitions and protective components where reduced flammability and electrical isolation are required.
Electronic Equipment: Flame-retardant PP can be evaluated for equipment liners, internal barriers, protective panels and fabricated enclosure components.
Chemical Equipment: The combination of PP chemical compatibility and modified flame behavior can be useful for selected equipment covers, panels, liners and partitions.
Water Treatment Systems: PP sheet can be fabricated into covers, partitions, liners and other components used around treatment and filtration equipment.
Mechanical Panels: Black flame-retardant PP can be used for lightweight industrial panels, protective barriers and custom machine components where the project requires defined flammability performance.
Pallet and Industrial Components: Suitable specifications can be evaluated for specialized industrial separators, covers and fabricated components according to structural and flame requirements.
| Comparison | Standard PP Sheet | Flame Retardant PP Sheet |
|---|---|---|
| Flame Performance | No specific flame-retardant classification unless separately tested | Modified formulation for a defined flame-performance requirement |
| Formulation | Standard PP resin grade | PP formulation containing a flame-retardant additive system |
| Typical Selection | General packaging, stationery, fabrication and industrial components | Electrical, electronics, insulation and safety-sensitive industrial components |
| Documentation | General material data | Material data plus applicable flame-test documentation |
Polypropylene is commonly selected for compatibility with many acids, alkalis and industrial chemicals, but flame-retardant additives can alter the performance of the base PP formulation.
Chemical suitability depends on the exact substance, concentration, operating temperature, exposure time and mechanical stress on the finished component.
| Chemical Requirement | Information to Provide |
|---|---|
| Chemical Name | Exact chemical or chemical mixture |
| Concentration | Operating concentration or dilution level |
| Temperature | Normal and maximum operating temperature |
| Exposure Time | Continuous, intermittent or short-term contact |
Flame-retardant additives can affect stiffness, forming behavior, welding conditions and appearance compared with standard polypropylene. Production trials should therefore be completed using the nominated grade before high-volume manufacturing.

Flame-retardant material selection should be based on the test documentation applicable to the exact product grade. Buyers should confirm that the supplied report identifies the required material formulation, color, tested thickness and flame classification.
Quality-management certificates, supplier test reports and material-level flame classifications should not be interpreted as automatic certification of the buyer's finished product.
It is a modified black polypropylene sheet formulated for improved flammability performance while retaining useful PP properties such as low weight, low moisture absorption and chemical compatibility.
The current product specification covers approximately 0.1mm to 3mm. Flame classification must be confirmed at the required thickness.
Selected HSQY flame-retardant PP grades can be specified for UL 94 V-0 requirements. Confirm the exact black grade, tested thickness and corresponding report before approving the material for production.
No. Flame-retardant polypropylene can still burn under sufficient heat or unsuitable conditions. V-0 describes performance under specified laboratory test conditions and does not mean that the material is completely non-combustible.
No. UL 94 V-0 and FM 4910 are separate requirements. If FM 4910-listed material is mandatory for a cleanroom or semiconductor project, state this requirement before material selection.
Polypropylene is commonly used as an electrical insulating material, but specific dielectric or insulation performance should be confirmed using data for the exact flame-retardant grade.
It can be evaluated for selected chemical-equipment panels, covers and liners. Provide the chemical name, concentration, temperature and exposure time so compatibility can be reviewed.
Yes, suitable grades can be evaluated for covers, panels, partitions, liners and other fabricated components used in water-treatment systems.
Yes. The original product specification lists customized width. Provide the required width, length, thickness and quantity when requesting a quotation.
Matte, glossy and line-textured surfaces are listed for this product family. Customized surface requirements can also be discussed.
Suitable sheets can be evaluated for cutting, die cutting, punching, bending, forming and thermal welding. Processing conditions should be tested on the exact flame-retardant formulation.
Cutting does not change the base formulation, but changes in thickness, forming, welding, coatings, contamination or finished-part geometry can affect actual fire performance. The completed component should meet the applicable project or product standard.
Sample requirements can be discussed before bulk production. Provide the required thickness, color, surface and flame-rating requirement so the most relevant sample can be selected.
Please provide the required flame standard, thickness, width, length, color, texture, application, operating conditions, processing method, required test documentation, quantity and destination.
