Plastic PP High Barrier Tray
The HSQY HSMAP rectangular tray measures 220 × 130 × 40 mm (8.7 × 5.1 × 1.6 inches). Its PP-based multilayer construction incorporates an EVOH/PE barrier structure to help retain the protective gas mixture used in modified atmosphere packaging. It is designed for fresh meat, poultry, seafood and other chilled foods that require a rigid, heat-sealable black tray.
Quick answer: Choose this tray when your project requires a 220 × 130 mm black PP high barrier tray for MAP packing. Before mass production, HSQY recommends testing the tray, selected lidding film, gas recipe and sealing parameters together on your actual tray sealer and distribution cycle.

Standard PP provides rigidity, moisture resistance and useful temperature performance, but a MAP pack also needs to control gas exchange. The EVOH barrier layer reduces oxygen and aroma transmission through the tray wall, while the surrounding PP and PE layers contribute moisture protection, forming and sealing performance. The actual barrier of the finished package depends on the tray structure, lidding film, seal integrity, storage humidity, temperature and package design.
This is why shelf life should not be promised from the tray alone. For a reliable commercial result, validate the complete packaging system using the actual food, gas mixture, lidding film, sealing machine and cold-chain conditions.
High barrier MAP performance: the multilayer structure helps retain the selected in-pack gas composition when paired with a suitable lidding film and a verified hermetic seal.
Retail-ready black presentation: the black base creates contrast for red meat, poultry, seafood and prepared foods.
Rigid handling performance: PP-based construction supports filling, sealing, stacking, packing and chilled distribution.
Machine-line potential: consistent flange geometry and denesting should be evaluated for the intended automatic or semi-automatic tray-sealing line.
Matched packaging supply: HSQY can discuss the tray together with a compatible high barrier lidding film, reducing specification risk during sourcing.
Custom project support: alternative depths, colors, compartment layouts and branding can be reviewed for food processors, packers, distributors and private-label programs.
| Food Category | Common Pack Format | What to Validate |
|---|---|---|
| Fresh beef, pork and lamb | Retail MAP portions and case-ready packs | Gas recipe, color retention, drip control, seal integrity and cold-chain shelf life |
| Poultry | Chicken portions, duck and turkey cuts | Leak control, absorbent pad requirement, seal contamination tolerance and stack strength |
| Fish and seafood | Chilled fillets, shellfish and portion packs | Product-specific gas safety, high-humidity barrier, leak resistance and odor retention |
| Processed meat and chilled foods | Sausages, marinated products and selected prepared foods | Oil and sauce compatibility, fill temperature, required seal type and final shelf-life protocol |
A high barrier tray cannot maintain a modified atmosphere without a compatible top web. Select a high barrier lidding film developed for the tray's PP-based sealing surface. The film structure and sealant should match the required oxygen barrier, anti-fog performance, puncture resistance, opening behavior and processing conditions.
Easy-peel seal: suitable when clean consumer opening is required; peel strength must remain stable across storage conditions.
Lock seal: suitable when stronger package integrity is the priority; confirm opening method and seal strength.
Anti-fog option: improves visibility for chilled products that generate condensation.
Printed lidding film: artwork, ink system, lamination and food-contact compliance must be evaluated for the intended market.
Important: sealing temperature, dwell time and pressure vary by lidding film and equipment. Ask for a tray-and-film sample set and run a seal-window trial before approving a production order.
Ask for a Matched Tray and Lidding Film
Confirm the usable dimensions: check the outside size, inside cavity, flange width, tray depth, capacity and product headspace.
Share your packaging conditions: provide the food type, pack weight, gas mixture, lidding film, tray sealer model, mold drawing and target line speed.
Test denesting and transport: verify tray separation, filling stability, nesting height, case count, compression resistance and pallet configuration.
Validate the seal: establish the sealing window and test for channel leaks, burst strength, peel behavior and contamination tolerance.
Run barrier and shelf-life trials: evaluate the complete sealed pack under realistic humidity, refrigeration, handling and distribution conditions.
Approve documentation and samples: confirm specification tolerances, food-contact documents, artwork, inspection criteria and golden samples before production.
HSQY supports standard and custom high barrier tray projects. Depending on the annual volume and application, available options may include alternative lengths, widths and depths; single- or multi-compartment designs; black, white, clear or custom colors; logo and branding solutions; different flange designs; and a matched lidding-film specification.
For an accurate quotation, send the required tray drawing or physical sample, food application, filling weight, annual quantity, destination country, preferred seal type, lidding-film requirement, packing method and target delivery schedule.
Packaging compliance is specification- and market-dependent. Request the current declarations and test reports that apply to the exact material structure, color and intended food-contact conditions. Buyers should also define dimensional tolerances, visual acceptance criteria, migration requirements, traceability, lot inspection and change-control requirements in the approved specification.

HSQY meets food processors, packaging distributors and sourcing teams at international exhibitions to discuss high barrier trays, lidding films, samples and custom packaging projects.

The published outside dimensions are 220 × 130 × 40 mm, equivalent to approximately 8.7 × 5.1 × 1.6 inches. Ask HSQY for the drawing to confirm the inner cavity, flange width, corner radius, nesting height and tolerances.
Yes. It is designed as a PP high barrier tray for MAP applications. Commercial performance depends on the complete pack, so the tray must be tested with the chosen lidding film, gas mixture, product and sealing parameters.
EVOH provides an oxygen and aroma barrier that helps limit gas exchange through the tray wall. Moisture-protective outer layers help preserve EVOH performance, but final barrier results also depend on humidity, temperature, film structure and seal quality.
Use a high barrier lidding film with a sealant compatible with the tray's PP-based sealing surface. Specify whether you need easy-peel or lock-seal opening, anti-fog performance, printing, puncture resistance and a particular oxygen transmission target.
Do not assume MAP and VSP trays are interchangeable. VSP requires a compatible sealing surface, flange design, skin film, product height and equipment recipe. Tell HSQY that your project is VSP so the correct tray structure can be reviewed and tested.
The tray is PP-based, but it is a multilayer high barrier structure. Collection and recycling acceptance vary by country and local facility. Confirm the final material composition, labeling rules and local recycling guidance before making a recyclability claim.
The published tray temperature range is -16°C to +100°C. Suitability for freezing, microwave reheating or hot filling must be validated with the final food, pack design, exposure time and temperature profile. Do not exceed the approved conditions.
Yes. Custom dimensions, depths, compartments, colors and branding can be reviewed. Tooling cost, artwork requirements, lead time and MOQ depend on the project. Send a drawing, sample or target pack specification for evaluation.
The published MOQ for the standard product is 30,000 pieces. A custom color, printed design, new size or special packing configuration may require a different quantity.
Send your product application, tray sealer model, mold dimensions, lidding-film specification, target gas mixture and delivery address through the contact form. HSQY can then confirm sample availability and recommend the next validation step.
