Request Current Technical Specifications
PET/PE laminated plastic sheet for pharmaceutical, food and thermoformed packaging applications.
Roll-stock format for slitting, forming, sealing and downstream packaging conversion.
Download the available PET technical data sheet below. Pharmaceutical buyers should also request the current product-specific PET/PE laminate specification, because the final laminate structure and PE sealing layer may not be fully represented by a general PET data sheet.
The PET layer provides stiffness, mechanical strength and dimensional stability. These properties help the material maintain shape during handling, printing, thermoforming and downstream packaging operations.
The PE layer provides a sealable surface and additional flexibility. Its formulation influences seal initiation temperature, seal strength, peel behavior and compatibility with the mating package material.
Combining PET and PE allows a packaging converter to obtain mechanical properties and heat-sealing behavior that a single-layer sheet may not provide. The exact layer ratio should be matched to the intended package and conversion process.
PET/PE laminates can provide practical oxygen and moisture protection for selected packaging applications. However, barrier requirements differ greatly between products. Buyers requiring a defined shelf life should request quantitative OTR and WVTR data under the relevant test conditions.
The PE layer is designed to support heat-sealing applications. Seal performance should be evaluated using the actual equipment, sealing temperature, pressure, dwell time and mating material.
The multilayer structure can provide useful moisture and oxygen barrier performance for selected products. Pharmaceutical projects with defined stability requirements should request measured barrier values for the selected laminate construction.
The laminate is designed to withstand bending and handling during converting, packaging and transportation. Actual flex resistance depends on total gauge, individual layer thicknesses and forming geometry.
PET contributes mechanical strength and impact resistance for formed packaging. Buyers should test finished containers under expected filling, storage and shipping conditions.
PET/PE sheet can be evaluated for vacuum and thermoforming applications. Heater temperature, forming temperature, draw depth and cooling conditions should be optimized for the selected laminate.
Transparent material can support product visibility, while colored structures can be evaluated for branding, identification or light-management requirements.
PET/PE composite sheet can be evaluated for thermoformed packaging of small liquid doses where the package requires mechanical strength, heat sealing and resistance to handling.
PET/PE structures can be evaluated for suppository packaging where formed cavities and reliable sealing are required. Product compatibility, seal integrity and storage stability should be validated with the actual formulation.
The material can be converted into formed containers and cavities for suitable pharmaceutical and healthcare-related packaging applications, subject to material compatibility and regulatory review.
The same laminate family can also be evaluated for selected food, fruit and nutrition packaging projects when the applicable formulation and food-contact documentation have been confirmed.
Thermoformed packaging illustrates the forming capability of PET-based rigid sheet structures.
PET-based sheet can be converted into transparent or colored formed packaging for different commercial applications.
| Selection Factor | PET/PE Laminate | Single-Layer PET |
|---|---|---|
| Structural Rigidity | Provided mainly by PET layer | Good PET rigidity |
| Heat-Sealing Layer | PE layer provides dedicated sealable surface | May require coating, compatible lid or another sealing solution |
| Moisture Resistance | Enhanced by PE layer | Depends on PET grade and package design |
| Typical Use | Formed and heat-sealed packaging | Clear rigid packaging, forming and display applications |
| Best Selection Method | Validate total structure, forming and seal system | Validate PET grade and downstream sealing method |
PET/PE may be suitable when the required package needs PET strength together with PE sealing and practical moisture and gas protection. However, some pharmaceuticals require substantially higher oxygen, moisture or aroma barrier performance.
For more demanding products, multilayer constructions incorporating materials such as EVOH, PVDC, PCTFE or aluminum may be evaluated according to the required barrier level, forming process, sterilization method and product compatibility.
Buyers should establish the target OTR, WVTR, light barrier, shelf life and chemical compatibility before selecting the final laminate structure.
Packaged product: Identify whether the packaging will contain liquid medicine, semi-solid products, suppositories, healthcare products or another packaged product.
Total thickness: Specify the target laminate gauge and acceptable tolerance.
Layer structure: Confirm the required PET and PE layer construction instead of specifying only the total sheet thickness.
Roll width: Provide the required web width and slitting tolerance according to the forming or packing machine.
Roll specification: Provide the required core diameter, roll weight, roll outer diameter and winding direction.
Thermoforming conditions: Provide heater configuration, forming temperature, cavity depth and production speed.
Seal requirements: Identify the mating material, seal temperature, pressure, dwell time and target seal or peel strength.
Barrier requirement: Provide target OTR and WVTR where shelf-life performance depends on oxygen or moisture transmission.
Product compatibility: Provide information on the packaged formulation, pH, solvents, oils, active ingredients and expected contact duration when relevant.
Destination market: State the country or region where the final packaging will be used so the required documentation can be reviewed.
Run the sample on the intended production machine. Evaluate heating uniformity, forming depth, wall distribution, flange quality, shrinkage and trimming performance.
Determine the appropriate sealing window using the actual mating material. Evaluate seal strength, peel consistency, channel leaks and package integrity after filling.
When shelf life depends on oxygen or moisture barrier, evaluate OTR and WVTR under the temperature and humidity conditions relevant to the final product.
Evaluate the finished laminate with the actual packaged formulation. Check appearance, odor, delamination, swelling, stress cracking, discoloration and seal performance during the intended shelf life.
Test finished packs through the expected storage, stacking and transportation conditions to confirm impact resistance and package integrity.
Discuss Your Pharmaceutical Packaging Project
Pharmaceutical packaging projects should be supported by documentation applicable to the exact material structure being purchased. A company-level quality-management certificate should not be treated as evidence that every laminate construction is automatically suitable for every pharmaceutical product.
Buyers can request available material specifications, quality-management documents, test reports, declarations and other product-specific documentation for review against their internal qualification procedures and destination-market requirements.
Where direct product contact is involved, the pharmaceutical manufacturer or packaging converter should evaluate extractables, compatibility, migration, barrier performance, sealing performance and other applicable requirements for the actual drug or formulation.
