Are PLA cups suitable for hot beverages?
No, PLA cups are not recommended for hot beverages as they can soften and deform at temperatures above 110°F/45°C. For hot drinks, we recommend our double-walled paper cups or other heat-resistant alternatives.
How do I dispose of PLA cups properly?
PLA cups should be disposed of in industrial composting facilities where available. In areas without industrial composting, they can be treated as regular waste, but will not break down efficiently in landfill conditions.
What is the shelf life of PLA cups?
When stored in cool, dry conditions away from direct sunlight and moisture, PLA cups have a shelf life of approximately 12-18 months before beginning to biodegrade.
Can PLA cups be recycled with regular plastic?
No, PLA should not be mixed with conventional plastic recycling streams as it can contaminate the recycling process. PLA requires separate industrial composting facilities.
