Model 007 118 oz Large CPET Ready Meal Tray

HSQY Model 007 is a large-format, single-compartment CPET ready meal tray designed for family-size meals, catering portions, frozen prepared foods, institutional meal production, bakery applications and other high-volume heat-and-serve food packaging.

The current Model 007 specification is 118 oz with external dimensions of approximately 12.76 × 10.39 × 2.36 in. and a single uninterrupted food cavity. The large format is suitable for meals that require substantially more volume than standard individual ready-meal trays.

CPET, or crystalline polyethylene terephthalate, is used for applications requiring greater heat resistance than standard APET food trays. When the exact tray, lidding film and heating process are validated together, CPET can support workflows involving chilled or frozen storage, transportation, microwave reheating and conventional-oven reheating.

For commercial ready-meal projects, the complete package should be tested using the actual food, fill weight, sealing film, filling temperature, freezing conditions, transport method and reheating instructions rather than relying on the tray material alone.

Why Model 007 Is Different from Standard Ready Meal Trays

Model 007 is a large 118 oz single-compartment tray. Its capacity places it above typical individual ready-meal formats, making it more suitable for large catering portions, family-size entrées, bulk prepared foods and applications requiring one uninterrupted cavity.

A single-compartment layout simplifies filling of large-volume dishes such as pasta, casseroles, rice dishes, baked foods, meat entrées and family-size prepared meals without internal dividers reducing usable volume.

Dual-Ovenable CPET Performance

Freezer-to-Oven Workflow

Properly designed CPET trays can support workflows in which prepared meals are filled, sealed, chilled or frozen, transported and later reheated in a microwave or conventional oven.

The tray should not automatically be described as suitable for every freezer-to-oven cycle. The exact tray, food mass, lidding film, oven type, heating temperature and heating duration must be tested together.

Microwave Reheating

CPET is widely selected for microwave-ready meal packaging. Microwave instructions should define whether the lidding film must be removed, pierced or peeled back and should be validated with the actual food formulation.

Conventional Oven Reheating

CPET provides higher heat resistance than standard APET packaging. Oven temperature, dwell time, tray support, food weight and proximity to heating elements should be included in product validation.

Typical Model 007 Applications

Family-Size Ready Meals

The large single cavity is well suited to family-size pasta, lasagna, casseroles, rice dishes, curries and other prepared meals requiring more volume than a standard individual tray.

Catering and Central Kitchens

Large-format CPET trays can be used for central-kitchen production, institutional catering, event catering and other bulk-prepared meal operations where food may be packed before chilled or frozen distribution.

Frozen Prepared Foods

CPET is commonly selected where a packaged meal must remain dimensionally stable during frozen storage and subsequent reheating. Frozen-drop, thermal-shock and reheating tests should be carried out using the finished pack.

Institutional Meal Programs

Large trays can support schools, hospitals, care facilities and meal-delivery operations where centralized filling, sealing, chilling or freezing and reheating are required.

Bakery and Oven-Ready Foods

CPET can also be evaluated for baked pasta, desserts, pies, bakery products and other oven-ready foods where high-temperature tray stability is required.

Model 007 Sealing and Lidding Film

A CPET tray alone does not determine package leak resistance or shelf-life performance. These characteristics depend on the complete tray-and-lidding system.

Buyers should select a lidding film that is compatible with the CPET sealing flange and intended storage and heating conditions. The sealing process should be validated using the actual sealing machine, temperature, pressure and dwell time.

Sealing Parameter What to Confirm
Lidding Film Structure Confirm compatibility with CPET sealing surface
Peel Type Easy peel or lock seal according to the application
Seal Temperature Establish a validated sealing window on the actual equipment
Seal Pressure Adjust according to tray flange, film and machine
Dwell Time Optimize for production speed and required seal integrity
Leak Resistance Test using actual recipe, fill level, transport orientation and temperature cycle
Oven / Microwave Use Confirm whether the selected lidding film remains on, is vented or is removed before heating

Is Model 007 Leakproof?

The tray itself should not be described as universally “leakproof.” Package leak resistance depends on the tray flange, lidding film, seal quality, food viscosity, fill level, contamination in the sealing area and distribution conditions.

For soups, sauces or other liquid-rich products, run seal-integrity and transport tests using the complete package before commercial launch.

CPET Barrier and Shelf-Life Performance

CPET provides useful packaging performance, but the finished shelf life of a ready meal cannot be determined from the tray material alone.

Oxygen and moisture protection depend on the tray, lidding film, seal integrity, headspace, food formulation, filling process, storage temperature and required shelf life. If a specific OTR, WVTR or shelf-life target is required, these parameters should be defined and tested on the complete pack.

CPET vs PP vs APET for Ready Meal Packaging

Factor CPET PP APET
Conventional Oven Suitable for selected validated high-temperature applications Usually more limited at high oven temperatures Not normally selected for conventional-oven ready meals
Microwave Yes, subject to application validation Commonly used Application dependent and generally not the preferred reheating tray
Frozen Storage Suitable after frozen-impact validation Suitable for many applications Suitable for many cold-food applications
Typical Ready Meal Use Frozen and chilled ovenable meals Microwave ready meals and hot food Cold trays, produce and non-oven packaging
Key Advantage High-temperature dimensional stability Lightweight and economical microwave performance Clarity and cold-packaging performance

Recycling and Sustainability

CPET is a PET-based material and can potentially enter PET recycling streams where local collection, sorting and recycling systems accept CPET food trays.

Actual recyclability depends on tray color, labels, lidding film, food contamination and local recycling infrastructure. Therefore the finished pack should not automatically be described as “100% recyclable” in every market.

Food-Contact and Quality Documentation

The current page references SGS and ISO 9001:2008. ISO 9001 is a quality-management-system standard and should not by itself be treated as proof of food-contact compliance for Model 007.

Food manufacturers should request current documentation applicable to the exact CPET grade, production site, tray formulation, intended food type, heating conditions and destination market.

Useful project documents may include the current technical specification, dimensional drawing, applicable food-contact declaration, migration or compliance documentation, certificate of analysis and agreed inspection criteria.

How to Evaluate Model 007 Before Bulk Production

1. Confirm the Approved Tray Drawing

Confirm external dimensions, cavity dimensions, flange width, corner radius, tray depth, tray weight and dimensional tolerances.

2. Run a Filling Trial

Evaluate actual fill volume, portion weight, product appearance and headspace using the intended meal recipe.

3. Validate the Lidding Film

Test seal initiation, seal window, peel force, contamination tolerance and seal integrity on the production sealing machine.

4. Test Frozen Storage

Where frozen distribution is required, test trays after freezing for cracking, flange damage, seal failure and thermal shock.

5. Validate Microwave Reheating

Test the tray and food at the intended microwave power, heating time and starting temperature.

6. Validate Conventional-Oven Heating

Confirm oven temperature, heating duration, shelf position, tray support and maximum food load before publishing consumer heating instructions.

7. Run Transport Tests

Evaluate tray stacking, case compression, vibration, seal integrity and handling performance under the intended distribution conditions.
